Purpose: To develop and validate a Chinese version of the Catquest-9SF questionnaire in a cataract population.

Methods: The Catquest-9SF Questionnaire was translated and back translated into Chinese. Preoperative patients were recruited at a tertiary eye hospital and their demographic information and visual acuity were documented. Psychometric properties of the Catquest-9SF, including ordered thresholds, the ability to distinguish between different strata of person ability, absence of misfitting items, unidimentionality, differential item functioning (DIF) and construct validity were tested, using Rasch analysis.

Results: A total of 102 patients (100% response rate) were enrolled. The participants'mean age was 70.2 year (SD = 12.1) and 46.9% were female. Rasch analysis showed that this version of the questionnaire had ordered response thresholds and was free of DIF. The items fit a single overall construct and unidimensional by principal components analysis of the residuals. Patients with visual impairment had significantly poorer Rasch scores on the Catquest-9SF (mean change, -2.5, p = 0.035, compared with non-visually impaired patients).

Conclusion: The Chinese version of Catquest-9SF is a valid and reliable questionnaire for assessing the visual disability outcomes of Chinese patients with cataract, and it may be recommended for routine clinical use.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate visual outcomes and patient satisfaction after bilateral implantation of a new hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lens called Clareon (Alcon) using the mini-monovision technique.

Methods: A single-center, prospective, nonrandomized study was conducted in Tandil (Buenos Aires, Argentina), including patients scheduled for cataract surgery. To achieve mini-monovision, the spherical equivalent was calculated between -0.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the quality of vision (QV) in patients undergoing bilateral cataract surgery with a specific type of intraocular lens (IOL) in Portugal, and it proposes a graphical representation for clarity.
  • A total of 26 patients, averaging 68 years old, were evaluated three months post-surgery on various visual performance metrics, including uncorrected and corrected visual acuity, reading speed, contrast sensitivity, and more.
  • Results indicated high patient satisfaction correlated with multiple factors, and the study successfully created a radar graph to visualize the comprehensive data on visual performance.

This study aimed to evaluate the initial clinical outcomes of and patient satisfaction with the newly introduced extended monofocal Evolux™ intraocular lens following cataract surgery. A retrospective study was conducted, involving 18 patients (36 eyes) who received Evolux™ lenses bilaterally. The inclusion criteria comprised individuals over 40 years old with no active eye diseases, excluding cataracts, and no postoperative complications.

Purpose: To develop a selection pathway to facilitate the use of multifocal intraocular lenses (mfIOLs) in cataract surgery in a public hospital setting.

Methods: A single-surgeon prospective cohort study in an Australian tertiary referral public hospital was conducted. A mfIOL selection pathway was designed and assessed.

Background: Homogeneous intraocular lens (IOL) calcification deteriorates patient's visual quality. There is a lack of functional and patient-reported data on patients with this material change undergoing IOL exchange surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate subjective and objective outcomes following IOL exchange due to homogeneous IOL calcification to improve evidence-based patient counseling.
