The nature of intrinsic and impurity point defects in lead zirconate titanate (PZT) ceramics has been explored. Using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) methods, several impurity sites have been identified in the materials, including the Fe(3+)-oxygen vacancy (VO) complex and Pb ions. Both of these centers are incorporated into the PZT lattice. The Fe(3+) –VО paramagnetic complex serves as a sensitive probe of the local crystal field in the ceramic; the symmetry of this defect roughly correlates with PZT phase diagram as the composition is varied from PbTiO3 to PbZrO3. NMR spectra (207)Pb in PbTiO3, PbZrO3, and PZT with iron content from 0 to 0.4 wt% showed that increasing the iron concentration leads to a distortion of the crystal structure and to improvement of the electrophysical parameters of the piezoceramics. This is due to the formation of a phase which has a higher symmetry, but at high concentrations of iron (>0.4 wt%), it leads to sharp degradation of electrophysical parameters.

One of the challenging problems in the research and development of vibration sensors relates to the formation of Ohmic contacts for the removal of an electrical signal. In some cases, it is proposed to use arrays of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which can serve as highly elastic electrode materials for vibration sensors. The purpose of this work is to study the effect of a current-collecting layer of CNTs grown over silicon on the properties of a lead zirconate titanate (PZT) film, which is frequently employed in mechanical vibration sensors or energy harvesters.

Imaging depth remains a restriction for Synthetic Aperture (SA) approaches, even though SA techniques have been shown to overcome some of the drawbacks of Conventional Focused Beamforming (CFB) technique. This limitation is attributed to lesser energy per transmit in SA techniques compared to that of CFB technique. Therefore, in this paper, a systematic investigation is done to evaluate the improvement in imaging depth and image quality of B-mode ultrasound images in the case of SA technique using PZT transducer by boosting the input voltage to the transducer, while measuring the acoustic exposure parameters recommended in international standards.

The demand for sustainable energy sources to power small electronics like IoT devices has led to exploring innovative solutions like acoustic energy harvesting using piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs). Acoustic energy harvesting leverages ambient noise, converting it into electrical energy through the piezoelectric effect, where certain materials generate an electric charge in response to mechanical stress or vibrations. This review paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the advancements in PENG technology, emphasizing their role in acoustic energy harvesting.

The advancement in material platforms exhibiting strong and robust electro-optic effects is crucial for further progress in developing highly efficient and miniaturized optoelectronic components with low power consumption for modern optical communication systems. In this work, we investigate thin-film lead zirconate titanate (PZT) substrates grown by a chemical solution deposition technique as a potential platform for on-chip plasmonic electro-optic modulators. A high modulation depth (>40 %) is achieved with 15 μm-long electro-optic directional coupler modulators.
