This symposium is named "Required education for medical technologists of the next generation", and is held under the joint sponsorship of the Japanese Association of Medical Technology Education. We received lectures by two speakers from the clinical field and two speakers from a medical technology educational institution. From the perspective of the medical technology education institution, we were introduced to education that is actually being provided. From the clinical perspective, we were given lectures that concretely discussed the necessary role of medical technologists in clinical practice. All of the lectures were very interesting and helpful.

Background: Research on the contextual drivers of antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programme interventions in neonatal units is limited.
Methods: As part of a prospective mixed-methods multidisciplinary neonatal AMS (NeoAMS) interventional study in 14 South African hospitals, we applied a three-phased process to assess implementation barriers and contextual drivers experienced by participating health professionals. The study included: (Phase one; P1) a survey of pre-intervention barriers and enablers; (P2) written feedback during the study intervention phase; and (P3) semi-structured exit interviews.

In this article, our goal is to offer an introduction and overview of the diagnostic approach to inherited platelet function defects (iPFDs) for clinicians and laboratory personnel who are beginning to engage in the field. We describe the most commonly used laboratory methods and propose a diagnostic four-step approach, wherein each stage requires a higher level of expertise and more specialized methods. It should be noted that our proposed approach differs from the ISTH Guidance on this topic in some points.
