Community pharmacy services in the late COVID-19 period: What has driven change?

Res Social Adm Pharm

March 2025

WHO Collaborating Centre for Pharmaceutical Pricing and Reimbursement Policies, Pharmacoeconomics Department, Gesundheit Österreich GmbH (GÖG / Austrian National Public Health Institute), Stubenring 6, 1010, Vienna, Austria; Department of Health Policy, London School of Economics and Political Science, Houghton Street, London, WC2A 2AE, UK. Electronic address:

Background: Community pharmacy appears to have undergone considerable change over the years.

Objectives: The objective of this research is to study the range of community pharmacy services provided in late stages of the COVID-19 pandemic and during the last decades and to identify potential drivers for change.

Methods: Four European countries (Austria, England, Estonia, and Portugal), which represent a balance in terms of income, organization of the health system and pharmacy services, were selected as case studies.

T-cell Engagers in Prostate Cancer.

Eur Urol

March 2025

Division of Medical Oncology, Department of Internal Medicine, Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT, USA. Electronic address:

Owing to the "cold" tumor immune microenvironment of prostate cancer, immune-targeting agents have shown limited efficacy in patients with advanced prostate cancer, highlighting the need for new therapies with novel mechanisms of action. In this context, T-cell engagers (TCEs), which induce T-cell-mediated killing of cancer cells by binding the CD3 receptor on T cells and a specific tumor antigen expressed on malignant cells, represent a promising therapeutic option. Multiple studies have explored the use of TCEs in previously treated patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, and several ongoing trials are currently assessing novel TCEs either as single agents or in combinatorial regimens with molecules with a distinct mechanism of action (eg, androgen receptor pathway inhibitors and other immune-targeting agents).

Introduction: In UK hospitals, it is unclear how organisational structures are arranged to support effective implementation of peri-operative blood management practice strategies. The aim of this study was to conduct a national survey of organisations to describe local practices of peri-operative patient blood management and infrastructure availability in the UK.

Methods: A series of benchmarking standards was developed using recommendations informed by national standards, relevant literature and an expert panel.

Fat absorption and metabolism after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery.

Metabolism

March 2025

Department of Endocrinology, Copenhagen University Hospital Hvidovre, Denmark; Department of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Electronic address:

Background: Triacylglycerol (TAG) plasma excursions after a high-fat meal are blunted after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), but underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. We studied TAG absorption and metabolism in 12 RYGB-operated individuals and 12 unoperated controls (CON) matched on sex, age, and BMI.

Methods: Participants followed a 7-day controlled diet and on day 4 underwent H-MR Spectroscopy of liver TAG and a high-fat liquid meal with oral and intravenous labeled stable isotope metabolites, subcutaneous abdominal fat biopsies, and indirect calorimetry.

Microbial diversity, enzyme activity, metal contamination, and their responses to environmental drivers in an Indo-Burmese freshwater wetland.

March 2025

Enviromental Chemistry Laboratory, Resource Management and Environmental Section, Life Science Division, Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology, Guwahati 781035, Assam, India; Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), Ghaziabad 201002, India. Electronic address:

Seasonal fluctuations can influence many biotic and abiotic parameters in wetland environments. Present research on wetlands do not serve as a comprehensive model for understanding these seasonal influences, especially in Northeast India, where wetland ecosystems remain understudied. That being, our study investigated the seasonal, spatial, depth-wise variations of enzyme activity (xylanase, invertase, and cellulase), microbial community, and heavy metal concentrations [chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), and iron (Fe)] in the sediments of Deepor Beel.
