Unusual Phospholipids from Linked to Depression.

J Am Chem Soc

January 2025

Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology, Harvard Medical School and Blavatnik Institute, Boston, Massachusetts 02115, United States.

A multifactorial association study detected a probable causal connection between the prevalence of in the gut microbiome and the incidence of major depressive disorder (MDD) in the human host. A bioassay-guided fractionation approach identified bacterially produced metabolites that induced pro-inflammatory immune responses. The metabolites are unusual phospholipids that resemble conventional cardiolipins, in which diethanolamine (DEA) replaces the central glycerol.

Introduction: The infratemporal fossa (ITF) is considered an uncommon location for giant cell granuloma (GCG), a rare benign disease that is frequently detected in the maxilla and mandible.

Presentation Of Case: A 47-year-old male presented with right-sided hearing loss, tinnitus, and jaw claudication. Radiological imaging confirmed the presence of a mass in the ITF accompanied by bone erosion.

Evaluating a clinically available artificial intelligence model for intracranial aneurysm detection: a multi-reader study and algorithmic audit.

Neuroradiology

January 2025

Department of Radiology, Jinling Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing, 210002, Jiangsu, China.

Purpose: We aimed to validate a clinically available artificial intelligence (AI) model to assist general radiologists in the detection of intracranial aneurysm (IA) in a multi-reader multi-case (MRMC) study, and to explore its performance in routine clinical settings.

Methods: Two distinct cohorts of head CT angiography (CTA) data were assembled to validate an AI model. Cohort 1, comprising gold-standard consecutive CTA cases, was used in an MRMC study involving six board-certified general radiologists.

This is the first bottom-up review of the lived experience of postpartum depression and psychosis in women. The study has been co-designed, co-conducted and co-written by experts by experience and academics, drawing on first-person accounts within and outside the medical field. The material initially identified was shared with all participants in a cloud-based system, discussed across the research team, and enriched by phenomenological insights.

Serendipitous Discovery of Dearomatized Dimers in Anthracene Derivative Oxidation.

Org Lett

January 2025

Department of Chemistry, University at Albany, State University of New York, Albany, New York 12222, United States.

We present the serendipitous discovery of an unusual dimer formed from anthracene-derived polyarenes. Unlike the typical oxidative coupling of substituted aromatic scaffolds, the reaction yielded a dearomatized enone dimer as the sole product. This dearomatized motif, notably, does not undergo the commonly observed rearomatization, and no biaryl products were detected.
