Despite advances in neonatal and ophthalmological care, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) continues to be a leading cause of childhood blindness worldwide. Investigating gene variants associated with vascular responses in ROP may provide valuable insights into its pathogenesis and identify risk or protective factors. Nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) play roles in vascular regulation, influencing processes relevant to ROP development.

Background/aims: The purpose of this study is to define genetic factors associated with anterior uveitis through genome-wide association study (GWAS).
Methods: In this GWAS meta-analysis, we combined data from the FinnGen, Estonian Biobank and UK Biobank with a total of 12 205 anterior uveitis cases and 917 145 controls. We performed a phenome-wide association study (PheWAS) to investigate associations across phenotypes and traits.

Background: Numerous clinical studies have shown that patients suffering from functional constipation can benefit by combining medication with acupuncture. There have been no published reviews or meta-analyses regarding the use of acupuncture in treating functional constipation in older adults. Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) contributes to cerebrovascular diseases and cognitive decline. Preclinical studies support the deleterious impact on the brain of intermittent hypoxia (IH), one of the main components of OSA, but heterogeneity in rodent species and brain regions studied, or induced by IH paradigms, can challenge interpretation of the studies. Hence, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the impact of IH on rodent brain oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis and the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1).

Background: Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) has been utilized as a reliable biomarker for diagnosis, treatment response, and prediction of future risks in asthma care, that potentially ensures the efficacy of FeNO-guided asthma management. As previous systematic reviews reported limited efficacy with this approach, we evaluated the efficacy of FeNO-guided management in monitoring adults with asthma.
Methods: In this systematic review and meta-analysis according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses Statement and the Minds Manual for Guideline Development, we updated a Cochrane systematic review in 2016 by adding six papers reporting randomized controlled trials with a treatment duration ≥12 weeks published between June 2016 and July 2022, and conducted a sub-analysis of two groups stratified by the strategy used: the FeNO-alone and FeNO with symptom score groups.
