Published: March 2015

A novel hybrid region-based active contour model is presented to segment medical images with intensity inhomogeneity. The energy functional for the proposed model consists of three weighted terms: global term, local term, and regularization term. The total energy is incorporated into a level set formulation with a level set regularization term, from which a curve evolution equation is derived for energy minimization. Experiments on some synthetic and real images demonstrate that our model is more efficient compared with the localizing region-based active contours (LRBAC) method, proposed by Lankton, and more robust compared with the Chan-Vese (C-V) active contour model.

Cloud Removal in the Tibetan Plateau Region Based on Self-Attention and Local-Attention Models.

Optical remote sensing images have a wide range of applications but are often affected by cloud cover, which interferes with subsequent analysis. Therefore, cloud removal has become indispensable in remote sensing data processing. The Tibetan Plateau, as a sensitive region to climate change, plays a crucial role in the East Asian water cycle and regional climate due to its snow cover.

Spatial distribution pattern and long-term trend of atmospheric methane in the Atlantic-Mediterranean transition region based on TROPOMI and GOSAT measurements.

Methane (CH) spatial distribution and its trends in the Atlantic-Mediterranean transition region of southwestern Europe were studied using TROPOMI and GOSAT observations. TROPOMI XCH provided insights into the distribution across the entire Iberian Peninsula, highlighting the high XCH mixing ratios in the two main valleys and the southern sub-plateau, characterized by agricultural and livestock activities. The marine-continental region in the southwestern Iberian Peninsula was identified as a major CH hot spot.

Most of the world's mountains are distributed across national boundaries. However, due to the sovereignty of national boundaries, conservation plans between neighboring countries are often uncoordinated. Against the backdrop of impending environmental changes, transboundary mountain ecosystems and biodiversity face significant threats.

Deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have achieved remarkable success in various computer vision tasks. However, the lack of interpretability in these models has raised concerns and hindered their widespread adoption in critical domains. Generating activation maps that highlight the regions contributing to the CNN's decision has emerged as a popular approach to visualize and interpret these models.

Background: Somatostatin receptor (SSR) targeting radiotracer Ga-DOTATATE is used for Positron Emission Tomography (PET)/Computed Tomography (CT) imaging to assess patients with Pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma (PPGL), rare types of Neuroendocrine tumor (NET) which can metastasize thereby becoming difficult to quantify. The goal of this study is to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) model for automated lesion segmentation on whole-body 3D DOTATATE-PET/CT and to automate the tumor burden calculation. 132 Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT scans from 38 patients with metastatic and inoperable PPGL, were split into 70, and 62 scans, from 20, and 18 patients for training, and test sets, respectively.
