Introduction: Since two decades we witnessed the publication of several studies devoted to the study of the influence of the presence of hydrosalpinx on the results of embryo transfer techniques. The aim of this study is to present the results of treatment and pregnancy outcomes in women with a history of infertility associated with unilateral hydrosalpinx, visible on vaginal ultrasound, which were subjected to unilateral occlusion with Essure® and subsequent treatment with in vitro fertilization.

Material And Methods: We performed a prospective analysis of a sample of 6 women, with a history of infertility and unilateral hydrosalpinx, between April 2010 to May 2013. In all cases we proceeded to unilateral hysteroscopic placement of the Essure® microinsert, prior to performing a cycle for in vitro fertilization.

Results: Of the 6 patients undergoing in vitro fertilization, 4 became pregnant (66.7%). Of these, two were uneventful pregnancies until delivery and 2 are still under surveillance, without complications. Of the patients who did not become pregnant after in vitro fertilization (n = 2, 33.3%), 1 conceived spontaneously during the subsequent monitoring.

Discussion: The advancement of hysteroscopy in the treatment of hydrosalpinx using the Essure® microinsert placement is a valid alternative to the laparoscopic approach.

Conclusion: This study suggests the effectiveness of unilateral tubal occlusion caused by Essure® microinsert in improving outcomes of in vitro fertilization treatment in cases of infertility associated with unilateral hydrosalpinx, visible in the vaginal ultrasound.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of oocyte retrieval using a single-lumen aspiration needle compared to a double-lumen aspiration needle in IVF (in vitro fertilization) patients.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective cohort study included all IVF cycles between 1st January, 2020 and 31st December, 2022 in Changhua Christian Hospital, Taiwan. Pairwise comparisons were conducted through propensity score matching analysis at a 1:3 ratio according to patients' age, anti-Müllerian hormone levels, and body weight.

Sperm vitrification in horses and donkeys.

J Equine Vet Sci

Veterinary Reproduction Group, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Cordoba, Spain. Electronic address:

Sperm vitrification is an alternative freezing method, which includes high cooling rates and non-permeable cryoprotectants agents. The first attempt in equids was using the spheres technique by directly dropping small volumes of the sperm into liquid nitrogen. Later, vitrification was developed using 0.

Study Question: Does a human fallopian tube (HFT) organoid model offer a favourable apical environment for human sperm survival and motility?

Summary Answer: After differentiation, the apical compartment of a new HFT organoid model provides a favourable environment for sperm motility, which is better than commercial media.

What Is Known Already: HFTs are the site of major events that are crucial for achieving an ongoing pregnancy, such as gamete survival and competence, fertilization steps, and preimplantation embryo development. In order to better understand the tubal physiology and tubal factors involved in these reproductive functions, and to improve still suboptimal in vitro conditions for gamete preparation and embryo culture during IVF, we sought to develop an HFT organoid model from isolated adult stem cells to allow spermatozoa co-culture in the apical compartment.
