Cancer tissues with lower global levels of histone acetylation display significantly increased rate of tumor recurrence or cancer-related mortality. The function global regulation of histone acetylation serves for the cell or how lower levels of histone acetylation may contribute to a more aggressive cancer phenotype has been unclear. Chromatin and histone modifications are currently thought to regulate only DNA-based processes. However, recent findings have revealed a novel function for global histone acetylation in direct regulation of cellular physiology. I will discuss how chromatin, by regulating the cellular flux of acetate, may integrate control of cellular physiologic state with gene expression and help explain the observations in cancer tissues.

Background: Tectorigenin (TEC) is a monomer of anthocyanin, which we found exhibits hepatoprotective effects. tRNA-derived fragments (tRFs) and ferroptosis play important roles in the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Recent discoveries have revealed that histone lactylation and acetylation play a crucial role in connecting cellular metabolism and epigenetic regulation through post-translational modification of histones.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder. However, current treatments only manage symptoms and lack the ability to slow or prevent disease progression. We utilized a systems genetics approach to identify potential risk genes and repurposable drugs for PD.

Although a fraction of functional peptides concealed within long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) is identified, it remains unclear whether lncRNA-encoded peptides are involved in the malignancy of cervical cancer (CC). Here, a 92-amino acid peptide is discovered, which is named TUBORF, encoded by lncRNA TUBA3FP and highly expressed in CC tissues. TUBORF inhibits ferroptosis to promote the malignant proliferation of CC cells.

Since decades after temozolomide was approved, no effective drugs have been developed. Undoubtedly, blood-brain barrier (BBB) penetration is a severe issue that should be overcome in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) drug development. In this research, we were inspired by linezolid through structural modification with several bioactive moieties to achieve the desired brain delivery.

DNA methylation, histone acetylation in the regulation of memory and its modulation during aging.

Memory formation is associated with constant modifications of neuronal networks and synaptic plasticity gene expression in response to different environmental stimuli and experiences. Dysregulation of synaptic plasticity gene expression affects memory during aging and neurodegenerative diseases. Covalent modifications such as methylation on DNA and acetylation on histones regulate the transcription of synaptic plasticity genes.
