Background: The lymphatic system is the major route of cancer metastasis, and sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) are the first station for the spread of cancer cells. Accurate identification of SLNs by tracers during surgery is crucial for SLN biopsy and lymphadenectomy. However, conventional monomodal tracers such as blue dyes and carbon nanoparticles often induce a misjudgment of SLNs and thus are still unsatisfying for clinical applications.

Thyroid cancer is one of the most common endocrine malignancies in clinical practice. Traditional surgery and radioactive iodine ablation have poor treatment results for poorly differentiated thyroid cancer, and there is a risk of metastasis and recurrence. In this study, caffeic acid, a natural herbal extract with certain biological activity, has been as precursor to prepare new caffeic acid carbon nanodots via a one-step hydrothermal method.

Supercapacitors (SCs), including electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs), pseudocapacitors, and hybrid capacitors, are esteemed for their high power density and attractive features such as robust safety, fast charging, low maintenance, and prolonged cycling lifespan, sparking significant interest. Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) are fluorescent nanomaterials with small size, broad excitation spectrum, stable fluorescence, and adjustable emission wavelengths. They are widely used in optoelectronics, medical diagnostics, and energy storage due to their biocompatibility, low toxicity, rich surface functional groups, abundant electron-hole pairs, large specific surface area, and tunable heteroatom doping.
