Objective: Melioidosis is a frequent cause of severe sepsis in Southeast Asia caused by the gram-negative bacterium Burkholderia pseudomallei. Patients with melioidosis have elevated circulating levels of tissue-type plasminogen activator, an important regulator of fibrinolysis.
