By employing the in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) technique, tensile deformation behaviors of a silver nanowire (NW) with a single twin structure were studied. Our observations revealed that the initial stage of plastic deformation was dominated by surface-mediated partial dislocation activities. Strikingly, the void formation and growth were shown to govern the later stage of plasticity, leading to the ductile type of fracture in NWs. Possible void nucleation and growth mechanisms were discussed. Additionally, TEM images show the transformation from bi-crystal to polycrystal in the fracture area, likely due to the void activity. Our results have implications in the assembly of functional structures applying nano-building blocks.

The effect of growth temperature and subsequent annealing on the epitaxy of both single- and few-layer TaSe on Se-terminated GaP(111) substrates is investigated. The selective growth of the 1T and 1H phases is shown up to 1 ML according to X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopies. The 1H monolayer, favored at low temperatures, exhibits a very homogeneous coverage after annealing, while the 1T ML, grown at high temperatures, is characterized by a better in-plane orientation.

Precision medicine involves a paradigm shift toward personalized data-driven clinical decisions. The concept of a medical "digital twin" has recently become popular to designate digital representations of patients as a support for a wide range of data science applications. However, the concept is ambiguous when it comes to practical implementations.

Coherent lensless imaging usually suffers from coherent noise and twin-image artifacts. In the terahertz (THz) range, where wavelengths are 2 to 4 orders of magnitude longer than those in the visible spectrum, the coherent noise manifests primarily as parasitic interference fringes and edge diffraction, rather than speckle noise. In this work, to suppress the Fabry-Pérot (F-P) interference fringes, we propose a novel method, which involves the averaging over multiple diffraction patterns that are acquired at equal intervals within a sample's half-wavelength axial shift.

Background: Studies have revealed that anterior glenoid rim bone resorption occurs in the early stage after arthroscopic Bankart repair (ABR) if bony Bankart lesions are absent or fail to heal. However, this structural change has never been studied after repair by footprint fixation (FF). Additionally, the relationship between the extent of rim resorption and healing of the repaired capsulolabral complex (CLC) remains unclear.

Background: Noninvasive prenatal diagnosis (NIPD) has been proven feasible for non-syndromic hearing loss (NSHL) in singleton pregnancies. However, previous research is limited to the second trimester and the application in twin pregnancies is blank. Here we provide a novel algorithmic approach to assess singleton and twin pregnancies in the first trimester.
