In this study, a novel on-line pre-column electrochemical instrument (PECI) coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was developed, and a novel method based on PEC-HPLC-UV for amplifying the ultraviolet (UV) response of iodate (IO₃⁻) was studied. Iodate undergoes reduction in the PECI, and the resulting I(-) was injected to an HPLC system and detected by a UV detector. For IO₃⁻ analysis, conditions that can influence the reduction efficiency, including applied potential, pH value and salt concentration, were investigated in detail. In an appropriate condition, the UV response of iodate after passing through PECI was almost 10 times more than that of the initial form with good precision (relative standard deviation 2.0-4.3%). The detection limit and quantity limit were 9 and 20 ng, respectively. It can be concluded that the proposed method is simple and highly sensitive.

The utilization of nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals plays a crucial role in the contemporary laser industry, and the advancement of novel NLO-active units is essential for the exploration of NLO materials. Two novel organic-inorganic hybrid iodates, designated as (CNH)MoO(IO)·3HO () and (CNIH)MoO(IO)·4HO () were synthesized via mild hydrothermal methods, exhibiting band gaps of 3.75 and 3.

In this study, novel anion photo-responsive supramolecular hydrogels based on cysteine-silver sol (CSS) and iodate anions (IO) were prepared. The peculiarities of the self-assembly process of gel formation in the dark and under visible-light exposure were studied using a complex of modern physico-chemical methods of analysis, including viscosimetry, UV spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, electrophoretic light scattering, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. In the dark phase, the formation of weak snot-like gels takes place in a quite narrow IO ion concentration range.

The lack of effective treatments for dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is in part due to a lack of a preclinical animal model that recapitulates features of the clinical state including macular retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) degeneration, also known as geographic atrophy (GA). A nonhuman primate model of GA was developed and its responsiveness to an approved treatment, avacincaptad pegol (ACP), a complement C5 inhibitor, was evaluated. Intravitreal (ivt) administration of sodium iodate (SI) into one eye of male Macaca fascicularis leads to retinal areas (mm) of hyper- or hypo-autofluorescence.

Widening the bandgaps while maintaining a strong second harmonic generation response has always been a research hotspot in the field of nonlinear optical iodate materials. A strategy involving covalent bonding is proposed that leverages the high valent later main group cation to construct iodates with predominantly covalent interactions. By using BiO(IO) as a template, the first Sb-containing polar iodate, SbO(OH)(IO) is successfully isolated.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers developed four new potassium rare earth iodates, including KLu(IO) and KLa(IO), using mild hydrothermal methods.
  • Three of these compounds (KLu(IO), KCe(IO)(HIO), and KPr(IO)(HIO)) exhibited polar structures and demonstrated measurable second-harmonic generation (SHG) responses, indicating their potential for nonlinear optical applications.
  • The study highlights how altering the radius and coordination of rare earth ions can influence crystal structure and SHG response, suggesting a new approach for designing effective polar nonlinear optical materials.
