Background: Given that people with patellofemoral pain (PFP) exhibit deficits in postural control, certain postural reactions may be associated with movement alterations in this population. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to investigate whether manipulation of the support base for balance maintenance could lead to different patterns of lower limb kinematics in people with PFP during single-legged squats.
Methods: Fourteen participants with PFP and 14 asymptomatic controls were first assessed performing single-legged squats freely, and then while holding a stick to provide stabilization during the task.

Heated tobacco products (HTPs) are electronic devices that heat tobacco sticks to temperatures much lower than those which cause pyrolysis and combustion in cigarettes. While this electrical heating causes the formation of an inhalable aerosol which contains nicotine, the aerosol from HTPs contains significantly fewer and lower levels of the harmful and potentially harmful chemicals found in cigarette smoke. As a result, HTP use potentially conveys reduced risks to health compared to cigarette smoking.

Background: Electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) offer a promising approach to tobacco harm reduction, but many people use both ENDS and combustible cigarettes ("dual use"), which undermines potential risk reduction. To explore the role of ENDS nicotine delivery in promoting switching to ENDS, we conducted a study in which people who smoked cigarettes were offered an ENDS that had previously been shown to replicate the rapid nicotine pharmacokinetics of combustible cigarettes (BIDI Stick).
Methods: Twenty-five cigarette smoking adults, not seeking smoking cessation treatment, but open to using ENDS as a cigarette substitute, were provided with a 12-week supply of BIDI Stick in tobacco or menthol flavors, during a study that included seven biweekly sessions and a 6-month follow-up.

Recent scientific interest has surged in the application of bioresources within nanotechnology, primarily because of their eco-friendly nature, wide availability, and cost-effectiveness. Jute is globally recognized as the second most prevalent source of natural cellulose fibers, and it produces a significant quantity of jute sticks as a byproduct. Nanocellulose (NC), which includes cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), exhibits exceptional properties such as high strength, toughness, crystallinity, thermal stability, and stiffness.

We investigate the percolation transition of aligned, overlapping, anisotropic shapes on lattices. Using the recently proposed lattice version of excluded volume theory, we show that shape-anisotropy leads to some intriguing consequences regarding the percolation behavior of anisotropic shapes. We consider a prototypical anisotropic shape-rectangle-on a square lattice and show that, for rectangles of width unity (sticks), the percolation threshold is a monotonically decreasing function of the stick length, whereas, for rectangles of width greater than two, it is a monotonically increasing function.
