A term, healthy infant presented with respiratory distress and severe pulmonary hypertension (PH). With an unclear aetiology and the intent to decrease right ventricular afterload, pulmonary vasodilators were initiated. Follow-up imaging revealed a supravalvular mitral ring as the cause of the PH which resolved after surgical resection of the membrane.

A couple presenting with more than 3 years' history of infertility and three miscarriages was tested for serum homocysteine levels and for the two principal MTHFR SNPs: 677C < T and 1298A < C, as per our general policy for patients with infertility of long duration. The woman was found to be wild type for both MTHFR SNPs with a serum homocysteine 10.5 µM, slightly higher than our accepted normal value of 8.

Cryptorchidism, the absence of one or both testicles in the scrotum, is the most common anomaly of genitourinary tract in males. The pathogenesis of undescended testes is unknown however the role of inflammation, tissue remodeling and oxidative stress is postulated. The aim of this study was to explore the role of HSP-70, MMP-3, MMP-17 and IL-8 in possible pathogenic pathways connected with cryptorchidism.
