Organized mesoporous TiO₂ Bragg stacks (om-TiO₂ BS) consisting of alternating high and low refractive index organized mesoporous TiO₂ (om-TiO₂) films were prepared to enhance dye loading, light harvesting, electron transport, and electrolyte pore-infiltration in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The om-TiO₂ films were synthesized via a sol-gel reaction using amphiphilic graft copolymers consisting of poly(vinyl chloride) backbones and poly(oxyethylene methacrylate) side chains, i.e., PVC-g-POEM as templates. To generate high and low index films, the refractive index of om-TiO₂ film was tuned by controlling the grafting ratio of PVC-g-POEM via atomic transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). A polymerized ionic liquid (PIL)-based DSSC fabricated with a 1.2-μm-thick om-TiO₂ BS-based photoanode exhibited an efficiency of 4.3%, which is much higher than that of conventional DSSCs with a nanocrystalline TiO₂ layer (nc-TiO₂ layer) (1.7%). A PIL-based DSSC with a heterostructured photoanode consisting of 400-nm-thick organized mesoporous TiO₂ interfacial (om-TiO₂ IF) layer, 7-μm-thick nc-TiO₂, and 1.2-μm-thick om-TiO₂ BS as the bottom, middle and top layers, respectively, exhibited an excellent efficiency of 7.5%, which is much higher than that of nanocrystaline TiO₂ photoanode (3.5%).

Rapid and sensitive detection of Epstein-Barr virus cell-free DNA (EBV cfDNA) is crucial for early diagnosis and monitoring of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), but accessibility to screening is limited by complicated and costly conventional DNA isolation and purification approaches. Here, a fully integrated ion concentration polarization (ICP)-enriched and nanozyme-catalyzed lateral flow assay (ICP-cLFA) is developed, enabling total analysis of EBV cfDNA in whole blood samples, with DNA isolation, pre-concentration, and amplification performed on a microfluidic chip, consequently providing the signal readout within 75 min. Specifically, ICP preconcentration and amplification steps, together with target recognition catalyzed by a platinum-decorated mesoporous gold nanosphere (MGNS@Pt) nanozyme, result in an ultralow detection limit of 4 aM in standard cfDNA samples and 100 aM in whole blood from NPC-bearing rats.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) remains a formidable challenge in biomedical research, as the silencing of intrinsic regenerative signals in most spinal neurons results in an inability to reestablish neural circuits. In this study, we found that neurons with low axonal regeneration after SCI showed decreased extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) phosphorylation levels. However, the expression of dual specificity phosphatase 26 (DUSP26)─which negatively regulates ERK phosphorylation─was reduced considerably in neurons undergoing spontaneous axonal regeneration.

Nano-Metal-Organic Frameworks Isolated in Mesoporous Structures.

As an alternative to bulk counterparts, metal-organic framework (MOF) nanoparticles isolated within conductive mesoporous carbon matrices are of increasing interest for electrochemical applications. Although promising, a "clean" carbon surface is generally associated with poor compatibility and weak interactions with metal/ligand precursors, which leads to the growth of MOFs with inhomogeneous particle sizes on outer pore walls. Here, a general methodology for in situ synthesis of eight nanoMOF composites within mesochannels with high dispersity and stability are reported.

Particle size and surface properties are crucial for lymphatic drainage (LN), dendritic cell (DC) uptake, DC maturation, and antigen cross-presentation induced by nanovaccine injection, which lead to an effective cell-mediated immune response. However, the manner in which the particle size and surface properties of vaccine carriers such as mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) affect this immune response is unknown. We prepared 50, 100, and 200 nm of MSNs that adsorbed ovalbumin antigen (OVA) while modifying -glucan to enhance immunogenicity.

A Ti-MCM-41 mesoporous molecular sieve catalyst was prepared by a hydrothermal method. Nitrogen adsorption desorption, XRD, TEM and SEM characterization results showed that the catalyst had a large specific surface area, a regular hexagonal pore structure, and titanium doping was uniformly dispersed in MCM-41 molecular sieves. The amount of titanium doping, reaction temperature, and the initial solution pH had important effects on the catalytic ozonation of dimethyl phthalate (DMP) by Ti-MCM-41.
