Cavity correlations and the onset of charge ordering at charged interfaces: A modified Poisson-Fermi approach.

J Chem Phys

January 2025

Instituto de Física, Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto, 35400-000 Ouro Preto, MG, Brazil.

Charge layering in the close vicinity of charged interfaces is a well-known effect, extensively reported in both experiments and simulations of Room Temperature Ionic Liquids (RTILs) and concentrated electrolytes. The traditional Poisson-Fermi (PF) theory is able to successfully describe overcrowding effects but fails to reproduce charge ordering even in strong coupling regimes. Simple models, yet capable of investigating the interplay between these important interfacial phenomena, are still lacking.

January 2025

Department of Rheumatology, Kassab Institute of Orthopaedics, Mannouba. Faculty of Medicine of Tunis, University of Tunis El Manar, Tunisia.

Aim: To elaborate Tunisian recommendations for the therapeutic management in current practice of patients with spondyloarthritis who are candidates for treatment with a biological agent.

Methods: Following the standardized procedures of the INEAS (Instance Nationale de l'Evaluation et de l'Accréditation en Santé) and in collaboration with the LITAR (Tunisian League against Rheumatism), a systematic review of the literature, carried out by 6 rheumatologists, based on the questions individualized by the working group (15 expert rheumatologists), served as the basis for the working meetings, with determination of the strength of the recommendations and the degree of agreement of the experts. The recommendations were validated by an independent reading group comprising 19 experts from various related specialties.

ISCAZIM: Integrated statistical correlation analysis for zero-inflated microbiome data.

Heliyon

January 2025

Department of Biostatistics, School of Public Health, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Jinan, 250012, China.

Microbiome-metabolome association analysis is critical to reveal the key pairs of gut microbiota and metabolites for discovery of the microbial biomarkers in chronic diseases. However, the characteristics of microbiome data, such as zero inflation, over dispersion, may impair the confidence of association analysis between microbiome and metabolome data. The objectives of this study are to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of existing statistical methods and to develop a computational framework tailored to the unique characteristics of microbiome data.

The complementary properties of corrosion resistance and ballistic resistance of AA5083 and AA7075, respectively, explain the significance of welding these two alloys in the marine armor industry. This study investigates a novel Al-SiC matrix reinforcement with a different SiC weight ratio in dissimilar friction stir welding of the AA5083/AA7075 joint at different transverse and rotational speeds. The study deduced that the novel matrix can play an important role in improving strength and ductility simultaneously.

Digest: Evolution of dragline silk in araneids show super tensile performance in web-building and non-web-building spiders.

Evolution

January 2025

School of Environmental and Life Sciences (SELS), Faculty of Science and Health, University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom.

Wolff (2024) takes a comparative phylogenetic approach to study the evolution of dragline silk in 164 species of spiders, including both araneid and non-araneid species. Many structural and mechanical properties of dragline silk showed no correlations; however, both tensile strength and toughness correlated with birefringence-an indicator for the directional ordering of protein materials in the silk fibre. These properties do not seem to differ between web-building and non-web-building spiders; many spider families were found to include species that produce super-performing silk as well as species that produce weak-performing silk.
