Chronic knee pain is a common complaint among the elderly and appears in 30%-40% of the population over the age of 65. This study was performed in order to evaluate correlation between clinical presentation of chronic knee pain and the imaging findings of SPECT and planar bone scintigraphy. Methods. We prospectively recruited 116 patients over the age of 50 who had neither knee surgery nor trauma. Patients were divided into symptomatic and asymptomatic groups. All patients were examined by an experienced orthopedic surgeon; on the same day imaging was performed. Statistical analysis was performed to correlate physical examination findings with planar scintigraphy and SPECT findings and blood pool images. Results. In symptomatic patients, planar scintigraphy correlated significantly (P < 0.01) with the presence of excessive joint fluid, synovial condensation, and decrease in range of motion as measured in extension and flexion and patellar grinding test. SPECT findings correlated with all of the above tests as well as with medial and patellofemoral joint tenderness. Conclusions. We believe a finding of tenderness at the medial articular crease or of the patellofemoral compartment of the knee should be considered an indication for the use of SPECT scintigraphy rather than planar scintigraphy.

Objectives: To conduct a meta-analysis of the diagnostic performance of non-contrast magnetic resonance pulmonary angiography (NC-MRPA) and ventilation-perfusion (V/Q) scintigraphy for the detection of acute pulmonary embolism (PE).

Materials And Methods: Systematic searches of electronic databases were conducted from 2000 to 2024. Primary outcomes were per-patient sensitivity and specificity of NC-MRPA and V/Q scintigraphy.

Purpose: To evaluate the predictive ability of 99mTc-galactosyl human serum albumin SPECT/CT quantitative parameters for posthepatectomy liver failure (PHLF).

Methods: Sixty-eight patients who underwent 99mTc-galactosyl human serum albumin scintigraphy as a preoperative examination for hepatectomy between July 2021 and December 2023 were prospectively evaluated. The patients were divided into PHLF and non-PHLF groups.

Purpose Of Review: This review evaluates recent advancements in Technetium-99 m pyrophosphate (99mTc-PYP) imaging for transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM). We summarize the advantages of single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) over planar imaging, the potential impact of quantitative methods, and emerging data for quantifying response to therapy.

Recent Findings: The current literature demonstrates the superior diagnostic accuracy of SPECT compared with planar imaging in 99mTc-PYP studies.

Chapter 10: What parathyroid imaging is required for hyprepratahyroidism?

Ann Endocrinol (Paris)

January 2025

Federation d'endocrinologie, hopital Louis Pradel, hospices civils de Lyon, université Lyon 1, 28, avenue Doyen-Lépine, 69500 Bron, France. Electronic address:

In over 80% of cases, primary hyperparathyroidism results from hypersecretion of PTH by a single parathyroid adenoma. Multi-glandular involvement, combining adenoma and/or hyperplasia in varying proportions, is also possible, although less frequent. When the diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism is certain and surgery is envisaged, imaging is useful for locating the hyperfunctioning gland or glands.

Purpose: This study aims to systematically evaluate all radionuclides used in knee RSV to date and identify the most suitable radionuclide for knee RSV.

Methods: To compare knee RSV with Y-90, P-32, Ho-166, Re-188, Au-198, Lu-177, Sm-153, and Re-186, we measured the radiation dose to non-target organs and the inducing of secondary malignancies in knee RSV patient, the radiation dose to family member and medical staff from the knee RSV patients, and the quality of post-treatment images.

Results: The Lifetime Attributable Risks of cancer incidence and mortality and the Relative Risks of solid cancer incidence and mortality are significantly higher for Y-90 and P-32 in both adult and pediatric patients compared to other radionuclides used in knee RSV.
