Carbonic anhydrases (CA), as a family of metalloenzymes, are found in almost every type of tissue and play an important role in catalyzing the equilibration of carbon dioxide and carbonic acid. In this study, a series of carbamate derivative was synthesized, and their inhibition effects on hCA I, hCA II and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzymes were investigated. They were determined to be very good inhibitor against for both isoenzymes (hCA I and hCA II) and AChE. The hCA I and hCA II were effectively inhibited by the carbamate derivatives, with inhibition constants (Ki) in the range of 194.4-893.5 nM (for hCA I) and 103.9-835.7 nM (for hCA II). On the other hand, Ki parameters of these compounds for AChE enzyme inhibition were determined in the range of 12.0-61.3 nM. The results clearly showed that both CA isoenzymes and AChE were inhibited by carbamate derivatives at the nM levels.

The transition to menopause is associated with disappearance of menstrual cycle symptoms and emergence of vasomotor symptoms. Although menopausal women report a variety of additional symptoms, it remains unclear which emerge prior to menopause, which occur in predictable clusters, how clusters change across the menopausal transition, or if distinct phenotypes are present within each life stage. We present an analysis of symptoms in premenopausal to menopausal women using the MenoLife app, which includes 4789 individuals (23% premenopausal, 29% perimenopausal, 48% menopausal) and 147,501 symptom logs (19% premenopausal, 39% perimenopausal, 42% menopausal).

In many western countries informal care is conceived as the answer to the increasing care demand. Little is known how formal and informal caregivers collaborate in the context of an diverse ageing population. The aim of this study was to gain insight in how professionals' perspectives regarding the collaboration with informal carers with a migration background are framed and shaped by intersecting aspects of diversity.

This paper questions the conventional wisdom that physicians must suppress anger in response to patient misbehaviour. It distinguishes the emotion of anger from its expression, which leans toward concerned frustration and disappointment for the sake of professionalism in patient care. Drawing on the framework of person-centred health care as a virtue ethic, the paper first suggests four reasons why and when physician anger toward patient behaviour may occasionally be appropriate: the inevitability of sometimes feeling angry, anger as a cognitive and behavioural resource, physician well-being, and potential patient benefit.

Introduction: Dl-3-n-butylphthalide (NBP), a small molecular compound extracted from celery seeds, has been shown to exhibit diverse pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, and anti-apoptotic effects. Recent studies have highlighted its efficacy in treating various cardiovascular conditions, such as myocardial infarction, hypertrophy, heart failure, and cardiotoxicity. This study aimed to investigate whether NBP could alleviate cardiac dysfunction and injury following hemorrhage-induced cardiac arrest (HCA) in a porcine model and elucidate its potential mechanisms.
