AI Article Synopsis

  • A preliminary study investigates new cerium vanadate derivatives as inhibitors of xanthine oxidase (XO), an enzyme linked to various health issues like gout and liver damage.
  • The study highlights the potential benefits these novel agents may offer compared to allopurinol, the standard XO inhibitor.
  • A critical overview is presented, discussing the efficacy and safety profiles of the new inhibitors in relation to existing treatment options.

Article Abstract

In this preliminary study, a new series of some cerium vanadate derivatives have been investigated as new type of inhibitors of xanthine oxidase (XO; E.C 1.17.3.2). XO is a superoxide-producing enzyme found normally in serum and the lungs, and its activity is concerned with several important health problems such as gout, severe liver damage, vascular dysfunction and injury, oxidative eye injury and renal failure. In this study, we present a critical overview of the effects of these novel type agents on XO with comparing the efficacy and safety profiles of allopurinol, the efficient classical inhibitor of XO.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries display promise as redox-based batteries, where separators are an essential part of preventing short-circuiting of the positive and negative electrodes, while the shuttle effect is a critical issue of separators. Currently, commercial PP separators are weak in inhibiting the polysulfides shuttling, so modified separators are needed to inhibit it to improve the battery performance. This paper reports that CeVO/KB composites act as separator materials.

Cerium vanadate/functionalized carbon nanofiber composite for the electrochemical detection of nitrite.

Food Chem

November 2024

Department of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, National Taipei University of Technology, Taipei 106, Taiwan. Electronic address:

This study presents a facial and quick electrochemical sensor platform that offers remarkable water and food safety applications. The present work represents a study of the synthesis and characterization for efficient cerium vanadate (CeVO) with a functionalized carbon nanofiber (f-CNF) decorated electrode, which is a highly effective electrode modifier for sensitive nitrite detection. The CeVO nanoparticles were synthesized using the facial hydrothermal technique, and a composite (CeVO@f-CNF) was prepared using the sonication method.

Department of Neurosurgery, Qilu Hospital, Cheeloo College of Medicine and Institute of Brain and Brain-Inspired Science, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong 250012, P. R. China.

Nanocatalytic therapy is an emerging technology that uses synthetic nanoscale enzyme mimics for biomedical treatment. However, in the field of neuroscience, achieving neurological protection while simultaneously killing tumor cells is a technical challenge. Herein, we synthesized a biomimic and translational cerium vanadate (CeVO) nanozyme for glioblastoma (GBM) therapy and the repair of brain damage after GBM ionizing radiation (IR).

Cerium vanadate/modified bentonite (CeVO/mbt) nanocomposite with different composition percentages was synthesized through a simple one-step hydrothermal method at 180 ℃, and then its photocatalytic activity was evaluated by decolorizing methylene blue (MB) in an aqueous solution under light exposure. In order to increase the surface area as an important parameter in photocatalytic processes, bentonite was modified by ball mill method. The structural and optical properties of the synthesized composites were determined by XRD, FT-IR, DRS, FESEM, EDS, and BET measurements.

Institute of Biomedical and Health Engineering, Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University, Shenzhen, Guangdong, 518055, China.

Compromises between enhanced on-targeting reactivity and precise real-time monitoring in the tumor microenvironment (TME) are the main roadblocks for catalytic cancer therapy. The hallmark of a high level of hydrogen peroxide (HO) and acidic extracellular environment of the hypoxia solid tumor can underpin therapeutic and tracking performance. Herein, this work provides an activatable wintersweet-like nanohybrid consisting of titanium (Ti) doped cerium vanadate nanorods with the modification of polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles (CeVO-Ti@PPy) for combinatorial therapies of breast carcinoma.
