Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) are a common phenomenon, occurring in the "healthy" population as well as in several mental illnesses, most notably schizophrenia. Current thinking supports a spectrum conceptualisation of AVH: several neurocognitive hypotheses of AVH have been proposed, including the "feed-forward" model of failure to provide appropriate information to somatosensory cortices so that stimuli appear unbidden, and an "aberrant memory model" implicating deficient memory processes. Neuroimaging and connectivity studies are in broad agreement with these with a general dysconnectivity between frontotemporal regions involved in language, memory and salience properties. Disappointingly many AVH remain resistant to standard treatments and persist for many years. There is a need to develop novel therapies to augment existing pharmacological and psychological therapies: transcranial magnetic stimulation has emerged as a potential treatment, though more recent clinical data has been less encouraging. Our understanding of AVH remains incomplete though much progress has been made in recent years. We herein provide a broad overview and review of this.

Aims And Objectives: The study aimed to compare the auditory perception status of children from different socioeconomic backgrounds, specifically urban versus rural. It also examined the correlation between outcome measures and the frequency of auditory verbal therapy sessions attended, as well as the impact of continuous electric analog stimulation on the age of implantation.

Material And Methods: A retrospective cohort study was carried out on 30 children who have received unilateral cochlear implantation in rural versus urban backgrounds.

Background: This meta-analysis was conducted to compare the efficacy and safety of vertebral augmentation (VA) plus pedicle screw fixation (PSF) with VA for treating osteoporotic thoracolumbar fractures (OTLFs).

Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) to identify studies comparing PSF+VA with VA for treating OTLF. The primary outcomes were operation time, blood loss, length of stay, visual analogue scale (VAS) score, Oswestry disability index (ODI), Cobb angle, anterior vertebral height (AVH), bone cement leakage, secondary fracture and other adverse events.

Auditory/visual hallucinations and perceptual anomalies are one of the core symptoms experienced by patients with schizophrenia. Studies have implicated lateral occipital cortex (LOC) as one of the areas to be aberrantly functioning in schizophrenia, possibly associated with the auditory/visual symptoms of schizophrenia. Here we report of a case of a 29-year-old female diagnosed with treatment resistant schizophrenia on clozapine with persistent auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) and visual anomalies.

To review the outcomes of patients who underwent repeated vertebroplasty (VP) surgery for adjacent segment fractures (ASF), defined as new osteoporotic vertebral fractures occurring at levels immediately above or below a previously treated vertebra. From 1 January 2018, to 31 December 2020, forty-one patients who developed ASF following initial VP and underwent repeated VP were enrolled in our study. Radiographic measurements included single and two-segment kyphotic angles (SKA and TKA), and anterior and mid-vertebral body height (AVH and MVH).

Background: Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVHs) in schizophrenia (SCZ) are linked to brain network abnormalities. Resting-state fMRI studies often assume stable networks during scans, yet dynamic changes related to AVHs are not well understood.

Methods: We analyzed resting-state fMRI data from 60 SCZ patients with persistent AVHs (p-AVHs), 39 SCZ patients without AVHs (n-AVHs), and 59 healthy controls (HCs), matched for demographics.
