Triboelectric tactile sensor for pressure and temperature sensing in high-temperature applications.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Guangxi Key Laboratory of Clean Pulp & Papermaking and Pollution Control, School of Light Industry and Food Engineering, Guangxi University, Nanning, 530004, PR China.

Skin-like sensors capable of detecting multiple stimuli simultaneously have great potential in cutting-edge human-machine interaction. However, realizing multimodal tactile recognition beyond human tactile perception still faces significant challenges. Here, an extreme environments-adaptive multimodal triboelectric sensor was developed, capable of detecting pressure/temperatures beyond the range of human perception.

The disposal of waste-printed circuit boards (WPCBs) poses significant environmental and health risks, as they are a major component of e-waste containing hazardous materials. However, WPCBs also contain valuable metallic elements, making them important resources for recycling. To address the dual challenge of hazardous waste management and resource recovery, sustainable approaches for metal extraction from WPCBs are imperative.

Dual-Modality Flow Phantom for Ultrasound and Optical Flow Measurements.

Phys Med Biol

January 2025

Schlegel Research Institute for Aging, University of Waterloo, 250 Laurelwood Drive, Waterloo, Ontario, N2L 3G1, CANADA.

As ultrasound-compatible flow phantoms are devised for performance testing and calibration, there is a practical need to obtain independent flow measurements for validation using a gold-standard technique such as particle image velocimetry (PIV). In this paper, we present the design of a new dual-modality flow phantom that allows ultrasound and PIV measurements to be simultaneously performed. Our phantom's tissue mimicking material is based on a novel hydrogel formula that uses propylene glycol to lower the freezing temperature of an ultrasound-compatible poly(vinyl) alcohol cryogel and, in turn, maintain the solution's optical transparency after thermocycling.

Negative capacitance (NC) effects in ferroelectrics can potentially break fundamental limits of power dissipation known as "Boltzmann tyranny." However, the origin of transient NC of ferroelectrics, which is attributed to two different mechanisms involving free-energy landscape and nucleation, is under intense debate. Here, we report the coexistence of transient NC and an S-shaped anomaly during the switching of ferroelectric hexagonal ferrites capacitor in an RC circuit.

Epstein-Barr nuclear antigen 1 (EBNA1), a sequence-specific DNA binding protein of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), is essential for viral genome replication and maintenance and is therefore an attractive target for the therapeutic intervention of EBV-associated cancers. Several EBNA1-specific inhibitors have demonstrated the ability to block EBNA1 function in vitro, but practical delivery strategies for these inhibitors in vivo are still lacking. Here, we report an intelligent hierarchical targeting theranostic nanosystem (denoted as mZGOCS@MnO-P5) that integrates an azide (N3) terminal dual-targeting peptide (N3-P5), a tumor microenvironment-responsive degradable MnO nanosheet, and a mesoporous ZnGaO:Cr, Sn near-infrared persistent luminescence (NIR-PL) nanosphere (mZGOCS).
