Elevated serum phosphate is associated with cardiovascular and total mortality in patients with kidney diseases and healthy individuals. But whether serum phosphate is associated with stroke is controversial. We searched PubMed and Embase from January 1, 1970 to May 9, 2014 with keywords such as "serum phosphate", "serum phosphorus", and "stroke". Dose-response meta-analysis was conducted. A restricted cubic spline model was used, and then we estimated pooled RR using generalized least square regression taking into account the correlation among categories of each study. Five studies with a total of 32,608 patients were included. We identified a linear relationship between serum phosphate and risk of stroke (P for non-linearity = 0.5258). The RR of phosphate (1 mg/dL) for stroke was 1.00 (95 % CI 0.97-1.05), similar results were observed in subgroup analysis. A linear relationship between serum phosphate and risk of stroke is identified. There is no association between serum level of phosphate and stroke.

A 3-year-old spayed male mixed-breed Labrador presented to the Emergency and Critical Care Unit with lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, a recent history of presyncopal episodes, and severe exercise intolerance. On admission, the patient had bradycardia, low blood pressure, and mild abdominal pain. Serum biochemistry information revealed severe hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, hypoglycemia, and mildly increased liver and kidney parameters.

A fluorescence probe for "switch-on" detection of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) was developed based on Au nanoclusters anchored MnO nanosheets (Au NCs-MnO NSs), which were synthesized using bovine serum albumin (BSA) as template through a simple one-pot approach. In the sensing system, MnO NSs function as both energy acceptors and target identifiers, effectively quenches the fluorescence of Au NCs via fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). The presence of ALP catalyzes the hydrolysis of L-ascorbic acid-2-phosphate (AAP) to ascorbic acid (AA), reducing MnO NSs to Mn and facilitate the fluorescence recovery of Au NCs.

Enhancing Biocide Safety of Milk Using Biosensors Based on Cholinesterase Inhibition.

A sensitive and reliable electrochemical biosensor for the detection of benzalkonium chloride (BAC) and didecyldimethylammonium chloride (DDAC), the most commonly used disinfectant biocides in the agri-food industry, is described. Acetylcholinesterase from (DM AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase from horse serum (BChE) were immobilized by entrapment in a photocrosslinkable polymer on the surface of carbon screen-printed electrodes. Preliminary tests conducted in phosphate buffer showed limits of detection (LODs) of 0.

Unlabelled: Iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) makes an individual prone to bacterial infections. The antimicrobial defence mechanism of neutrophils is orchestrated by Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate Hydrogen (NADPH) oxidative burst which is iron-dependent. The few previous studies documenting a decrease in neutrophil oxidative burst in iron-deficient children have been based mainly on the Nitro blue tetrazolium test (NBT).

Background And Aim: Phosphate dysregulation is often associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD), and recent studies suggest that it may also be present in non-CKD patients with systemic conditions including iron deficiency anemia. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between iron deficiency parameters (total iron-binding capacity {TIBC}, hemoglobin, and serum ferritin) and markers of proximal tubular dysfunction (the maximal tubular reabsorption of phosphate normalized to glomerular filtration rate {TmP/GFR} and tubular reabsorption of phosphate {TRP}) in non-CKD patients with iron deficiency anemia.

Methods: This was a hospital-based analytical cross-sectional study conducted in the outpatient department and/or inpatient wards of the Department of Internal Medicine, Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital associated with Moti Lal Nehru (MLN) Medical College, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India, between July 2023 and August 2024.
