Background: Macrophage activation syndrome is a rare and life threatening complication of childhood rheumatic disorders.
Case Characteristics: 6-year-old male child with macrophage activation syndrome complicating systemic onset juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
Observation: He developed pericardial effusion, hyponatremia and deranged renal function.
Outcome: Improvement on intravenous cortico steroids.
Message: High index of suspicion can lead to earlier diagnosis of macrophage activation syndrome.

The metastasis and recurrence of cancer post-surgery remain the major reasons for treatment failures. Herein, a photo-immune nanoparticle decorating with M1 macrophage membrane (BD@LM) is designed based on the inflammatory environment after surgical resection. By loading photosensitizer black phosphorus quantum dots (BPQDs) and chemotherapeutics doxorubicin (DOX) in BD@LM nanoparticles, an effective chemophototherapy-mediated immunogenic cell death of tumor cells is triggered, subsequently leading to the maturation of dendritic cells for further immune cascade.

Interferon regulatory factor 2 (IRF2) is a member of the IRF family that is specifically involved in diverse immune responses via interferon (IFN)/IRF-dependent signaling pathways. In this study, IRF2 of Epinephelus akaara (EAIRF2) was identified and characterized by evaluating its structural and functional properties. EAIRF2 showed the highest homology with IRF2 of Epinephelus coioides and clustered with teleosts in the phylogenetic tree.

Nowadays, photodynamic therapy (PDT) offers a non-invasive tumor treatment with high safety profiles and minimal side effects, implying a promising clinical application for patients with malignant tumors. However, the lack of efficacy in metastasis and recurrence still notably limits its application. To solve this problem, one promising strategy is to improve the immune response activated by PDT.

Unlabelled: Enteroviruses cause nearly 1 billion global infections annually and are associated with a diverse array of human illnesses. Among these, myocarditis and the resulting chronic inflammation have been recognized as major contributing factors to virus-induced heart failure. Despite our growing understanding, very limited therapeutic strategies have been developed to address the pathological consequences of virus-induced chronic innate immune activation.

Aim Of The Study: Metabolic associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is one of the most frequent chronic liver diseases in the world; macrophage activation is reflected by increased expression of CD163, which sheds as serum soluble CD163 that is linked to hepatic steatosis, inflammation, and fibrosis. Aim of the study was assessment of liver macrophage activation and hepatic histopathological changes in patients with MASLD.
Material And Methods: A total of 30 patients with MASLD and equal numbers of age- and sex-matched healthy controls were enrolled in the study.
