SMARTCyp is an in silico method that predicts the sites of cytochrome P450-mediated metabolism of druglike molecules. The method is foremost a reactivity model, and as such, it shows a preference for predicting sites that are metabolized by the cytochrome P450 3A4 isoform. SMARTCyp predicts the site of metabolism directly from the 2D structure of a molecule, without requiring calculation of electronic properties or generation of 3D structures. This is a major advantage, because it makes SMARTCyp very fast. Other advantages are that experimental data are not a prerequisite to create the model, and it can easily be integrated with other methods to create models for other cytochrome P450 isoforms. Benchmarking tests on a database of 394 3A4 substrates show that SMARTCyp successfully identifies at least one metabolic site in the top two ranked positions 76% of the time. SMARTCyp is available for download at http://www.farma.ku.dk/p450.

To address the challenge of antibiotic-containing wastewater, a novel micromagnetic carrier-modified integrated fixed-film activated sludge system (MC-IFAS) was developed for treating tetracycline (TC)-containing swine wastewater in this study. The magnetic effects of the MC significantly enhanced TC removal by improving TC biosorption and biodegradation in both the suspended activated sludge and the carrier-attached biofilm in the MC-IFAS. The increased electrostatic attraction and number of binding sites in both the activated sludge and the biofilm enhanced their TC biosorption capacities, particularly in the activated sludge.

Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (P450s) play important roles in herbicide resistance. In this study, there are four amino acid mutations (F39Y, H163Y, S203A, and V361E) between and , which were cloned, respectively, from susceptible (S) and tribenuron-methyl-resistant (TR) . The Arabidopsis expressing or showed resistance to tribenuron-methyl, carfentrazone-ethyl, and oxyfluorfen, while Arabidopsis transformed with CYP96A146-R or CYP96A146 with any two or three mutations of H163Y, S203A, or V361E exhibited significantly higher resistance to tribenuron-methyl than Arabidopsis expressing CYP96A146-S.

New insecticides prequalified for malaria control interventions include modulators of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors that act selectively on different subunits leading to variable sensitivity among arthropods. This study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying contrasting susceptibility to neonicotinoids observed in wild populations of two mosquito sibling species. Bioassays and a synergist test with piperonyl butoxide revealed that the sister taxa, Anopheles gambiae and An.

Mosquitoes within the complex play a crucial role in human disease transmission. Insecticides, especially pyrethroids, are used to control these vectors. Mosquito legs are the main entry point and barrier for insecticides to gain their neuronal targets.
