For individuals at high risk of developing breast cancer, interventions to mitigate this risk include surgical removal of their breasts and ovaries or five years treatment with the anti-estrogen tamoxifen or aromatase inhibitors. We hypothesized that a silicone based anti-estrogen-eluting implant placed within the breast would provide the risk reduction benefit of hormonal therapy, but without the adverse effects that limit compliance. To this end, we demonstrate that when placed adjacent to mammary tissue in the 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene-induced rat breast cancer model a fulvestrant-eluting implant delays breast cancer with minimal systemic exposure.

Androgen excess and metabolic abnormality largely contribute to the pathogenesis of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), which primarily precipitates ovarian dysfunction and infertility in reproductive-age women. Impaired mitochondrial function and epigenetic alteration have been linked to the development of PCOS. However, it is unknown whether acetate would exert a therapeutic effect on ovarian mitochondrial dysfunction in PCOS.

Background: Aromatase inhibitors (AI) reduce hormone receptor-positive breast cancer recurrence risk by about 50%. However, half of AI-treated postmenopausal women report new or worsened musculoskeletal symptoms (AIMSS), and 20% discontinue therapy prematurely. Acupuncture is effective for reducing symptoms, but many women are not able to access acupuncture therapy.

Purpose: There is limited data on the use of low dose tamoxifen (LDT) for chemoprevention since its introduction in 2019. This study sought to determine the rate of LDT uptake at our institution and describe factors associated with its use.
Methods: We performed a retrospective chart review of women diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS), and/or atypical hyperplasia from 2019 to 2021.
