A simple and compact reflective liquid level sensor based on modes conversion in the thin-core fiber incorporating one tilted fiber Bragg grating (TFBG) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. A piece of thin-core fiber containing one TFBG ensures the modes conversion between the core mode and cladding modes. The external liquid can induce the cladding modes covert to the radiation modes and lead to the decrement of the collected cladding modes power, then the liquid level can be measured from the collected cladding modes power. The modes conversion in the proposed structure is theoretically analyzed. The experimental results show the high liquid level sensitivity and temperature immunity of the proposed sensor, and its significant advantage is that the measurement range is not limited to the length of the TFBG itself.

The study by Cao aimed to identify early second-trimester biomarkers that could predict gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) development using advanced proteomic techniques, such as Isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Their analysis revealed 47 differentially expressed proteins in the GDM group, with retinol-binding protein 4 and angiopoietin-like 8 showing significantly elevated serum levels compared to controls. Although these findings are promising, the study is limited by its small sample size ( = 4 per group) and lacks essential details on the reproducibility and reliability of the protein quantification methods used.

Heterogeneous catalysts for parahydrogen-induced polarization (HET-PHIP) would be useful for producing highly sensitive contrasting agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the liquid phase, as they can be removed by simple filtration. Although homogeneous hydrogenation catalysts are highly efficient for PHIP, their sensitivity decreases when anchored on porous supports due to slow substrate diffusion to the active sites and rapid depolarization within the channels. To address this challenge, we explored 2D metal-organic layers (MOLs) as supports for active Rh complexes with diverse phosphine ligands and tunable hydrogenation activities, taking advantage of the accessible active sites and chemical adaptability of the MOLs.

Ethnopharmacological Importance: Zhili decoction (ZLD) is a traditional Chinese medicine prescription for ulcerative colitis (UC). However, the mechanism by which ZLD exerts its therapeutic effects in the context of UC remains unclear.
Aim Of Study: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of ZLD on the gut microbiota and related fecal metabolite levels using a mouse model of UC.
Drugs must accumulate at their target site to be effective, and inadequate uptake of drugs is a substantial barrier to the design of potent therapies. This is particularly true in the development of antibiotics, as bacteria possess numerous barriers to prevent chemical uptake. Designing compounds that circumvent bacterial barriers and accumulate to high levels in cells could dramatically improve the success rate of antibiotic candidates.

Here, we aim to identify metabolites mediating this relationship to elucidate the underlying biological pathways.
Methods: We included 59 pregnant participants from a US-based pregnancy cohort.
