Multidisciplinary meetings as an effective clinical intervention.

When used well, multidisciplinary meetings can function in the same way as other clinical interventions to improve communication, efficiency and outcomes. They help break down barriers, manage difficult emotions, and benefit service users and staff. But it is imperative that they are well prepared, well attended, and that the purpose and agenda are agreed. It is also vital to have an efficient chair and that meetings take place in an environment where feelings can be shared openly and respected. Services should recognise and address relevant training and support requirements.

Objective: The multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach is increasingly being utilized in the management of complex head and neck diseases. This study analyzed the benefits of MDT for patients with head and neck diseases as primary or secondary conditions and categorized MDT meetings into two types: head and neck surgery initiation (HNI) and head and neck surgery participation (HNP). The study further explored the characteristics of these MDT meetings and the factors influencing patient compliance, aiming to optimize MDT treatment models to maximize patient benefits.

This paper explores the underutilized educational potential of tumor boards as a platform for medical student education. Acknowledging the complexity and multidisciplinary nature of tumor boards, we propose 12 strategic interventions aimed at integrating undergraduate medical students into these meetings to enhance their learning experience. Through research, the T21 Research Society (T21RS), established in 2014, unites a worldwide community dedicated to understanding the impact of T21 on biological systems and improving the quality of life of people with DS across the lifespan.
