The plasma emission pre-peaks of many atomic and ionic spectral lines of Cu and Ar were systematically investigated in a Grimm-type pulsed glow discharge (PGD). To register the pre-peaks with sufficient time resolution, a monochromator with photomultiplier detection was used. When the applied power exceeded a specific threshold, pre-peaks were found in all spectral lines investigated, and it was revealed that the electrical pre-peak was the cause of the atomic emission pre-peak. The form and intensity of the pre-peak radiation were, however, found to be different for different atomic emission lines. The excitation energy of the upper energy level of the atomic line transition, and factors related to recombination and self-absorption, were found to affect the emission pre-peak. Pre-peaks observed when using pulsed DC and pulsed radio-frequency power were compared. This investigation provides insight into best practice when selecting spectral lines most suitable for analytical spectrometry using PGD.

The integrated frequency comb generator based on Kerr parametric oscillation has led to chip-scale, gigahertz-spaced combs with new applications spanning hyperscale telecommunications, low-noise microwave synthesis, light detection and ranging, and astrophysical spectrometer calibration. Recent progress in lithium niobate (LiNbO) photonic integrated circuits (PICs) has resulted in chip-scale, electro-optic (EO) frequency combs, offering precise comb-line positioning and simple operation without relying on the formation of dissipative Kerr solitons. However, current integrated EO combs face limited spectral coverage due to the large microwave power required to drive the non-resonant capacitive electrodes and the strong intrinsic birefringence of LiNbO.

In this study, a series of 16 arylidenehydrazide derivatives (7a-7p), hybridized with the natural product carvacrol, were successfully synthesized starting from anthranilic acid methyl ester. The cytotoxic effects of these compounds were examined against two different cell lines, A549 and BEAS-2B. Additionally, in silico studies were conducted to investigate the ligand-protein binding modes and their stabilities.

Broadband CARS is a coherent Raman scattering technique that provides access to the full biological vibrational spectrum within milliseconds, facilitating the recording of widefield hyperspectral Raman images. In this work, BCARS hyperspectral images of unstained cells from two different cell lines of immune lineage (T cell [Jurkat] and pDCs [CAL-1]) were recorded and analyzed using multivariate statistical algorithms in order to determine the spectral differences between the cells. A classifier was trained which could distinguish the known cells with a 97% out-of-bag accuracy.

Institute of Biomedical Technologies, Auckland University of Technology, Auckland City, 1010, Auckland, New Zealand. Electronic address:

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the viability of a hypothesis for selective targeting of skin cancer cells by exploiting the spectral gap with healthy cells using analytical and numerical simulation.

Methods: The spectral gap was first identified using a viscoelastic dynamic model, with the physical and mechanical properties of healthy and cancerous skin cells deduced from previous experimental studies conducted on cell lines. The outcome of the analytical simulation was verified numerically using modal and harmonic analysis.

Lung cancer with heterogeneity has a high mortality rate due to its late-stage detection and chemotherapy resistance. Liquid biopsy that discriminates tumor-related biomarkers in body fluids has emerged as an attractive technique for early-stage and accurate diagnosis. Exosomes, carrying membrane and cytosolic information from original tumor cells, impart themselves endogeneity and heterogeneity, which offer extensive and unique advantages in the field of liquid biopsy for cancer differential diagnosis.
