Background: Patients on maintenance hemodialysis (HD) face complications due to the accumulation of protein-bound uremic toxins, such as advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which contribute to inflammation, oxidative stress, and cardiovascular disease. Conventional HD techniques inadequately remove AGEs. This study evaluates the efficacy of the HA130 hemoadsorption cartridge combined with high-flux HD (HF-HD) in enhancing AGE removal.

Drug delivery vehicles optimize therapeutic outcomes by enhancing drug efficacy, minimizing side effects, and providing controlled release. Injectable hydrogels supersede conventional ones in the field of drug delivery owing to their less invasive administration and improved targeting. However, they face challenges such as low biodegradability and biocompatibility, potentially compromising their effectiveness.

Emerging Delivery Systems for Enabling Precision Nucleic Acid Therapeutics.

ACS Nano

January 2025

Beijing Key Laboratory for Bioengineering and Sensing Technology, Daxing Research Institute, School of Chemistry and Biological Engineering, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Beijing 100083, China.

Nucleic acid therapeutics represent a highly promising treatment approach in modern medicine, treating diseases at the genetic level. However, these therapeutics face numerous challenges in practical applications, particularly regarding their stability, effectiveness, cellular uptake efficiency, and limitations in delivering them specifically to target tissues. To overcome these obstacles, researchers have developed various innovative delivery systems, including viral vectors, lipid nanoparticles, polymer nanoparticles, inorganic nanoparticles, protein carriers, exosomes, antibody oligonucleotide conjugates, and DNA nanostructure-based delivery systems.

Background: Children often experience anxiety and pain during minor surgical procedures, prompting the search for effective pain management strategies beyond traditional pharmaceutical approaches. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of virtual reality (VR) as a pain reduction method in pediatric outpatient surgical interventions compared to the standard use of nitrous oxide. The research questions explore pain reduction levels, patient preferences, enjoyment during VR use, and the time limit of the VR application.
