Pediatric bowel preparation protocols used before colonoscopy vary greatly, with no identified standard practice. The present clinical report reviews the evidence for several bowel preparations in children and reports on their use among North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition members. Publications in the pediatric literature for bowel preparation regimens are described, including mechanisms of action, efficacy and ease of use, and pediatric studies. A survey distributed to pediatric gastroenterology programs across the country reviews present national practice, and cleanout recommendations are provided. Finally, further areas for research are identified.

Background: Exposure of critically ill patients to antibiotics lead to intestinal dysbiosis, which often manifests as antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Faecal microbiota transplantation restores gut microbiota and may lead to faster resolution of diarrhoea.

Oligoguluronate lithium (OGLi) was prepared for the purpose of enhancing the anti-ulcerative colitis (UC) activities of OG, in which lithium (Li) is coupled with the C6-carboxyl of G residue. The therapeutic effects of OGLi on dextran sulfate (DSS)-induced UC mice were investigated, and oligoguluronate sodium (OGNa) and lithium carbonate (LC) were used as contrasts. The effects of OGLi, OGNa and LC on the treatment of UC mice were studied by monitoring body weight change and evaluating colon length, the disease activity index (DAI), histopathological examination and gut microbiota regulation.

Research Question: How safe and effective is transrectal oocyte retrieval (TROR) for fertility preservation in nulliparous virginal women?
Design: This was a retrospective single-centre study of 105 nulliparous women from five satellite centres of Fakih IVF, UAE, who underwent TROR for oocyte cryopreservation. Extensive bowel preparation and rectal cleansing was performed prior to oocyte retrieval. Patient characteristics, stimulation protocol, and procedure outcome and safety data were collected.
