Combining non-invasive brain stimulation techniques and EEG markers analysis: an innovative approach to cognitive health in aging.

Geroscience

January 2025

Brain Connectivity Laboratory, Department of Neuroscience and Neurorehabilitation, IRCCS San Raffaele Roma, Rome, Italy.

In an era marked by a rapidly aging global population, delving into the intricate neurophysiological changes that accompany the aging process assumes paramount importance. This narrative review offers a comprehensive exploration of the intricate relationship between electromagnetic neuromodulation and electroencephalography (EEG) within the context of aging. Moreover, it showed the promising landscape of non-invasive neuromodulation techniques, encompassing established methodologies like transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct and alternating current stimulation (tDCS/tACS).

Advances in TENGs for Marine Energy Harvesting and In Situ Electrochemistry.

Nanomicro Lett

January 2025

School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, 100044, People's Republic of China.

The large-scale use of ample marine energy will be one of the most important ways for human to achieve sustainable development through carbon neutral development plans. As a burgeoning technological method for electromechanical conversion, triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has significant advantages in marine energy for its low weight, cost-effectiveness, and high efficiency in low-frequency range. It can realize the efficient and economical harvesting of low-frequency blue energy by constructing the floating marine energy harvesting TENG.

Purpose: The loss of synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2 A (SV2A) can lead to dysfunction of GABAergic neurons, but a direct comparison of SV2A and GABA receptor densities in humans has not been assessed. This study evaluated SV2A and GABA receptor abnormalities in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) and compared the patterns to glucose hypometabolism.

Methods: Eleven patients with DRE were retrospectively recruited and underwent PET imaging with [F]fluorodeoxyglucose ([F]FDG), [F]Flumazenil (FMZ), and [F]SynVesT-1.

In this study, we identified features with the largest contributions and property trends in predicting the adsorption energies of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen adsorbates on transition metal (TM) surfaces by performing Density Functional Theory (DFT)-based calculations and Machine Learning (ML) regression models. From 26 monometallic and 400 bimetallic fcc(111) TM surfaces obtained from Catalysis-hub.org, three datasets consisting of fourteen elemental, electronic, and structural properties were generated using DFT calculations, site calculations, and online databases.

GPR142 is a tryptophan-sensing receptor that has been implicated in the regulation of inflammation. In this study, we investigated the relationships between inflammatory cytokine and GPR142 expression by using cellular, animal models, and human stomach samples. We found that addition of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β into the culture of ghrelin-producing cell line, MGN3-1 cells, increased GPR142 mRNA expression levels.
