Published: October 2014

Introduction And Objectives: It has been suggested that patients who have had a melanoma may develop increased immunity against certain antigens expressed by tumor-associated melanocytes. Thus our objective was to review the records of patients with successive primary melanomas to ascertain whether the pattern of regression might indicate the presence of an immunization effect arising from the first melanoma.

Material And Methods: A review of all the cases recorded in the melanoma database of our dermatology department between 2000 and 2012 identified 19 patients who had multiple asynchronous melanomas (2.56% of all the cases recorded). We studied the presence or absence of regression in these melanomas and other clinical and histological characteristics.

Results: The presence of regression was significantly higher in successive melanomas than in the first tumors identified (42.10% vs 21.05%, P=.018). Regression of at least 1 melanoma was observed in 42.10% of the patients studied and regression of 2 melanomas was observed in 21.05%. In no case was regression observed in the first melanoma and not in the second; however, in 21.05% of the patients there was evidence of regression in the second tumor and none in the first.

Conclusions: Our findings suggest the possibility that the first melanoma produces an immunization effect in some patients who develop multiple asynchronous melanomas.

Ancestral SARS-CoV-2 immune imprinting persists on RBD but not NTD after sequential Omicron infections.

Whether Omicron exposures could overcome ancestral SARS-CoV-2 immune imprinting remains controversial. Here we analyzed B cell responses evoked by sequential Omicron infections in vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. Plasma neutralizing antibody titers against ancestral SARS-CoV-2 and variants indicate that immune imprinting is not consistently induced by inactivated or recombinant protein vaccines.

Background And Aim: The progressive nature of type 2 diabetes often, in time, necessitates basal insulin therapy to achieve glycemic targets. However, despite standardized titration algorithms, many people remain poorly controlled after initiating insulin therapy, leading to suboptimal glycemic control and complications. Both healthcare professionals and people with type 2 diabetes have expressed the need for novel tools to aid in this process.

Background: Preliminary studies on epidural motor cortex stimulation (eMCS) for the treatment of drug-resistant neuropathic pain have supported the extension to novel stimulation waveforms, in particular burstDR. However, only a low level of evidence is available. The aim of this retrospective observational study was to compare the analgesic efficacy of burstDR versus tonic eMCS.

Electronic address:

At present, lead-containing wastes have increasingly become the raw materials together with primary lead concentrate for lead production to meet the ever-increasing lead demand market. PbSO is the dominant component in the lead-containing wastes, nevertheless, its reaction behavior during lead smelting is not sufficiently investigated. This study investigated PbSO decomposition behaviors and phase transformation mechanisms at oxidizing and reductive atmospheres and various gas flow rates.
