A new decay station has been built for the ISAC facility at TRIUMF for the rapid and reliable characterization of radioactive ion beam (RIB) compositions and intensities with the capability of simultaneously collecting α, β, and γ decay data from RIB with intensities between a few and ≈10(11) ions per second. It features user-friendly control, data acquisition, and analysis software. The analysis of individual decay time structures allows the unambiguous assignment of α and γ lines even with substantial isobaric contamination present. The capability for accurate half-life measurements is demonstrated with the example of (46)K. The coupling of the yield station to the laser ion source, TRILIS, allows the correlation of radiometric data with automated laser frequency scans. First results of in-source laser spectroscopy measurements on astatine are discussed.

Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI) can provide spatially resolved molecular information about a sample. Recently, a postionization approach (MALDI-2) has been commercially integrated with MALDI-MSI, allowing for bettered sensitivity and consequent improved spatial resolution. While advantages of MALDI-2 have previously been established, we demonstrate here statistically increased in-source fragmentation (ISF) results from postionization with a commercial instrument.

While edible algae might seem low in fat, the lipids they contain are crucial for good health and preventing chronic diseases. This study introduces a binary matrix to analyze all the polar lipids in both macroalgae (Wakame-, Dulse-, and Nori- spp.) and microalgae (Spirulina-, and Chlorella-) using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS).

. The primary goal of this research is to demonstrate the feasibility of radiation-induced acoustic imaging (RAI) as a volumetric dosimetry tool for ultra-high dose rate FLASH electron radiotherapy (FLASH-RT) in real time. This technology aims to improve patient outcomes by accurate measurements ofdose delivery to target tumor volumes.

Ionization of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by coinage metal ions (Cu, Ag, and Au) generated by laser desorption and ionization (LDI) of a metal nanolayer in subatmospheric conditions is explored. The study was performed in a commercial subatmospheric dual MALDI/ESI ion source. Five compounds representing different VOC classes were chosen for a detailed study of the metal ionization mechanism: ethanol, acetone, acetic acid, xylene, and cyclohexane.

3-Amino-4-hydroxybenzoic acid (AHB) was the first matrix identified by glycoprotein glycan analysis using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS). However, compared to commonly used matrices, such as 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHB), AHB is less efficient at glycan ionization and lacks the ability to ionize other molecular species, such as peptides, and thus is no longer used. In this study, we focused on the glycan-selective ionization ability of AHB and its low-noise properties in the low-molecular-weight region, as we expected that these properties could be enhanced by adding sodium to AHB.
