The structural basis of zones of discontinuity in the living human eye lens has not been elucidated, and there is no conclusive explanation for what relevance they may have to the structure and function of the lens. Newly developed synchrotron radiation based X-ray Talbot interferometry has enabled the detection of subtle fluctuations in the human eye lens which, when used in mathematical modelling to simulate reflected and scattered light, can recreate the image of the lens seen in the living human eye. The results of this study show that the zones of discontinuity may be caused by subtle fluctuations in the refractive index gradient as well as from random scattering in the central regions. As the refractive index contours are created by cell layers with progressively varying protein concentrations, the zones are linked to growth and will contain information about ageing and development. The index gradient is important for image quality and fluctuations in this gradient may add to quality optimisation and serve as models for designs of new generation implant lenses.

The global gridded crop production dataset at 10 km resolution from 2010 to 2020 (GGCP10) for maize, wheat, rice, and soybean was developed to address limitations of existing datasets characterized by coarse resolution and discontinuous time spans. GGCP10 was generated using a series of adaptively trained data-driven crop production spatial estimation models integrating multiple data sources, including statistical data, gridded production data, agroclimatic indicator data, agronomic indicator data, global land surface satellite products, and ground data. These models were trained based on agroecological zones to accurately estimate crop production in different agricultural regions.

In the present study, the effects of temperature and rotational and traverse speeds on the mechanical properties of polypropylene joints that are welded by friction stir welding using a non-rotational shoulder and a heat-assisted welding process is investigated. Tensile properties, microhardness measurements, microscopy observations, and thermal analysis are carried out in the present research to evaluate the effect of the welding parameters on the mechanical properties of welded joints. The experiments are conducted and analyzed by means of a central composite design using an analysis of variance (ANOVA).
