Published: June 2014

The 1,1-disubstituted silole dianion 2 has been isolated and characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis for the first time. 2 can be used as a two-electron-transfer reducing reagent for the reduction of organic compounds and inorganic salts with regeneration of the corresponding neutral silole in nearly quantitative yields, indicating that it is an excellent reducing reagent. Reduction of (Mes)2SiCl2 with 2 selectively yielded the cyclotrisilane (Mes2Si)3 in high yield, which has not been isolated in pure form with the existing methods.

Bladder cancer often recurs, necessitating innovative treatments to reduce recurrence. We investigated non-thermal plasma's potential as a novel anti-cancer therapy, focusing on plasma-activated solution (PAS), created by exposing saline to non-thermal plasma. Our study aims to elucidate the biological effects of PAS on bladder cancer cell lines in vitro, as well as the combination with mitomycin C (MMC), using clinically relevant settings.

Regulation of enzymatic lipid peroxidation in osteoblasts protects against postmenopausal osteoporosis.

Oxidative stress plays a critical role in postmenopausal osteoporosis, yet its impact on osteoblasts remains underexplored, limiting therapeutic advances. Our study identifies phospholipid peroxidation in osteoblasts as a key feature of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Estrogen regulates the transcription of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), an enzyme crucial for reducing phospholipid peroxides in osteoblasts.

Although significant progress has been made in the effective measurement of Zn(II), Аlizarin red S (ARS) was immobilized on polyethylene polyamine-modified polyacrylonitrile (PPF-1) via a new matrix. This approach allows the detection of low levels of Zn(II) ions in various water samples via preconcentrated atomic absorption spectrometry. The use of PPF-1 in a polymer matrix for zinc preconcentration presents several advantages over traditional sorbtion-spectroscopic methods, including reduced cost, high zinc recovery, increased sensitivity, and selectivity.

Cystatin C (Cys-C) is emerging as a critical biomarker for assess gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), a condition that significantly impacts maternal and fetal health. In this study, we developed a novel label-free electrochemical immunosensor designed for point-of-care applications, offering lower reagent consumption and rapid detection of Cys-C in pregnant women with GDM. Compared to traditional enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), the sensor demonstrates enhanced sensitivity, reduced reagent usage, and faster detection.

Universita degli study di cagliari, Dipartimento di Scienze Chimiche e Geologiche, Cittadella Universitaria, SS 554 bivio per Sestu, 09042, Monserrato, ITALY.

Solvent-free techniques have gained considerable attention in recent years due to their environmental advantages and potential to enable chemical reactivities beyond the reach of traditional solution-based methods. Mechanochemistry has emerged as a groundbreaking approach to drive sustainable chemical processes. Despite its promise, some challenges still need to be explored, including the overlooked issue of material leaching during grinding, a phenomenon in which components from milling media or reaction vessels, such as stainless steel, unintentionally alter reaction outcomes.
