Background: The objectives of this study were to investigate whether severity of clubfoot, age, and weight of the patients at initial manipulation and casting influence the total number of castings required.

Methods: This prospective study was conducted on 38 idiopathic clubfoot patients undergoing weekly manipulation and casting using the method recommended by Ponseti. The patients' age, weight, and foot Pirani score at the start of manipulation and casting were analysed against the total number of castings required to achieve correction to 60° abduction.

Results: Simple linear regression analysis on the influence of weight, age, and Pirani score at the time of cast initiation showed that the Pirani score was the only significant predictor for the total number of castings required.

Conclusion: The total number of castings required to treat clubfoot was determined by the severity of clubfoot but not by the weight and age of patients.

Magnesium chloride-infused chitosan-poly(vinyl alcohol) electrolyte films: A versatile solution for energy storage devices.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

Department of Chemistry, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal 576104, Karnataka, India.

The potential of advanced energy storage devices lies in using solid biodegradable polymer electrolytes. This study is focused on a solid blend polymer electrolyte (SBPE) film based on chitosan (CS)-poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) blend matrix doped with magnesium chloride (MgCl) salt via solution casting. The interaction of MgCl was verified via X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy.

Operando X-Ray Tomoscopy of Laser Beam Welding.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

January 2025

Institute of Applied Materials, Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie, Hahn-Meitner-Platz 1, 14109, Berlin, Germany.

The phenomena occurring in a weld seam during advancement of a laser beam over a metallic component are still under dispute. The occurrence and evolution of porosity and the occasional blowout of melt need to be understood. Here, a recently developed X-ray tomoscopy setup is applied, providing one hundred 3D images per second to capture the temporal evolution of the melt pool in an AlSi9Cu3(Fe) die-casting while a laser beam advances.

Department of Medical Genetic, Ganzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Ganzhou, Jiangxi, 341000, People's Republic of China.

Background: Few studies have evaluated the correlation between serum uric acid (SUA) levels and the prevalence of female infertility in the general population, and the effect of magnesium intake on this correlation has not been investigated.

Methods: All participants aged 18-45 years at baseline were enrolled from the National Health and Nutritional Examination Surveys (NHANES) 2013-2018. The continuous variable of SUA was divided into quartile (Q1: ≤3.

Electronic address:

The development of biomass material is an important approach to alleviating the excessive using of plastic packaging, by which the product could be more environmentally friendly and lower toxicity. In this study, we developed a biodegradable photodynamic antibacterial food packaging film using nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) synthesized from crayfish shells, combined with konjac glucomannan (KGM) and sodium alginate (SA). Casting method was used to prepare the composite film and results indicated that incorporation of N-CQDs significantly enhanced the mechanical and barrier properties of the film by reducing the number of micropores.

Is percutaneous heel cord tenotomy a necessary component in the Ponseti treatment of idiopathic clubfoot deformity?

J Pediatr Orthop B

January 2025

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Scottish Rite for Children, Dallas, Texas, USA.

This study aimed to compare outcomes of idiopathic clubfeet (IC) treated with a percutaneous heel cord tenotomy (PHCT) at the conclusion of Ponseti casting with those that were not. A retrospective review of patients enrolled in a single institution prospective clubfoot registry over 19 years was performed. Patients under the age of 3 months with untreated IC managed via the Ponseti method that had a minimum of 2 years follow-up were included.
