AI Article Synopsis

  • The tetrapropylammonium hydroxide solution alters the lamellar zeolite precursor MCM-22P to create a stable aqueous colloidal suspension.
  • The resulting suspension is characterized by techniques like X-ray diffraction, small angle X-ray scattering, and atomic force microscopy.
  • This analysis reveals the presence of ultrathin two-dimensional (2D) crystallites, with some monolayers being just one unit cell thick, measuring approximately 2.5 nm.

Article Abstract

The action of a tetrapropylammonium hydroxide solution on lamellar zeolite precursor MCM-22P produced a stable aqueous colloidal suspension which was shown by X-ray diffraction, small angle X-ray scattering and atomic force microscopy to contain ultrathin two-dimensional (2D) crystallites, including one-unit cell thick (i.e., 2.5 nm) monolayers.

Inner Helmholtz layer control through co-solvent strategies for high-performance copper hexacyanoferrate//zinc battery.

Copper hexacyanoferrate (CuHCF) demonstrates high working voltage, convenient synthesis methods, and economic benefits. However, capacity decay of CuHCF//Zn full cells is usually observed in aqueous electrolytes due to the dissolution of Cu and Fe, as indicated by the irreversible insertion of Zn ions and the consequent formation of ZnCuHCF. To address these challenges, a cathode-oriented electrolyte engineering design employing a methyl acetate (MA) co-solvent with zinc triflate (Zn(OTf)) salt electrolyte is implemented.

Pharmaceutical nanosuspensions, also called nanocrystals, are heterogeneous mainly aqueous dispersions of insoluble drug particles stabilised by surfactants and/or polymers. Nanosuspensions as liquid formulations suffer from instability. Solidification of nanosuspensions to solid dosage forms is a way to combine the advantages of nanocrystals with the advantages of the solid state.

The impact of animal-based food production on climate change drives the development of plant-based alternatives. We demonstrate the use of colloidal thermogelation on a real nanoemulsion system to create structured gels that could be of interest for thermo-mechanical processing of next-generation plant-based food applications. We use a commercial pea protein isolate (PPI) without further purification to stabilize a 20 vol% peanut oil-in-water nanoemulsion at pH = 7 by high-pressure homogenization (HPH) and demonstrate the temperature induced gelation behavior of the nanoemulsion as a function of the HPH processing parameters.

Synergistic interface regulation for achieving fast kinetics and highly reversible zinc metal anodes.

Uncontrolled zinc dendrite growth and adverse side reactions at the Zn anode interface severely limit its practical application. Based on theoretical calculations, this study in situ constructs a functional interface (ICFI Zn) on the Zn anode surface, consisting of a surface-textured structure and a zinc-philic protective layer. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of ion regulation and atomic anchoring of this functional interface, the ICFI Zn anode achieves homogenised regulation of ion fluxes, facilitates ion transport kinetics, effectively suppresses side reactions and guides the deposition of dendrite-free Zn.

The influence of solute concentration and filtration on mesoscale clusters of flufenamic acid, a typical pharmaceutical compound, in ethanol.

Hypothesis: It is hypothesised in this work that mesoscale clusters will be present in both undersaturated and supersaturated solutions of organic pharmaceutical molecules. These clusters, being loose aggregates, could be sensitive to shear forces experienced during filtration. Thus, comparing the behaviour of these clusters alongside nanoparticles during filtration-an important sample treatment parameter during crystallization-will elucidate qualitative differences from solid, crystalline nanoparticles of similar size.
