Thandar & Arumugam (2011), in their erection of the new dactylochirotid family Cucumellidae, inadvertently omitted to designate its type genus. This error is here rectified and Cucumella Heding (in Ludwig & Heding, 1935) is designated the type genus of the new family Cucumellidae to comply with the requirements of Article 61 of the International Code. Following Smirnov (2012), in his revised classification of the Holothuroidea, the new family is now classified in the order Dendrochirotida. In addition, the holotype of Cucumella decaryi Cherbonnier is re-examined to confirm its synonymy with Neostichopus grammatus (H.L. Clark).

A novel strain of the genus , named He02, was isolated from flowers of L. in a survey for lactic acid bacteria associated with wild and cultivated plants in the metropolitan area of Valencia, Spain. Partial 16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed a similarity of 99% to DSM 23037=Ryu1-2.

Three novel strains within the genus (29887, 29892 and 29896) were isolated from healthy pigs during routine veterinary physical exams. All three strains were non-motile and non-spore-forming Gram-positive cocci. The complete genome of each strain was attained, and phylogenetic analyses were performed.

Human papillomaviruses (HPV) from the genus beta have been implicated in the development of cutaneous squamous cell cancer in and organ transplant patients. In contrast to alpha-high-risk HPV, which cause ano-genital and oropharyngeal cancers, beta-HPV replication is not well understood. The beta-HPV49 transcriptome was analyzed by RNA sequencing using stable keratinocyte cell lines maintaining high levels of extrachromosomally replicating E8- genomes, which can be established due to a lack of the viral E8^E2 repressor protein.

Vitamin B (cobalamin, herein B) is a key cofactor for most organisms being involved in essential metabolic processes. In microbial communities, B is often scarce, largely because only few prokaryotes can synthesize B and are thus considered B-prototrophs. B-auxotrophy is mostly manifested by the absence of the B-independent methionine synthase, MetE.

The cyanobacterium causes harmful algal blooms that pose a major threat to human health and ecosystem services, particularly due to the prevalence of the potent hepatotoxin microcystin (MC). With their pronounced EPS layer, colonies also serve as a hub for heterotrophic phycosphere bacteria. Here, we tested the hypothesis that the genotypic plasticity in its ability to produce MC influences the composition and assembly of the phycosphere microbiome.
