Aim: To present the outcomes of cochlear implantation (CI) in children with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorders (ANSD).
Materials And Methods: The pre- and post-CI hearing outcomes in children with ANSD were retrospectively evaluated. Performance was assessed with categories of auditory performance (CAP) and the Manchester spoken language development scale (MSLDS).
Results: Full data were available in 27 implanted children with ANSD with average age at implantation 35.4 months (range 19-68 months). Nine children were implanted bilaterally, while 13 were bimodal. The pre-CI CAP and MSLDS scores were 2.5 (range 0-5) and 2.5 (range 0-6), while the post-CI scores 5.8 (range 2-9) and 7.7 (range 3-10), respectively.
Conclusions: Although the outcome of CI in children with ANSD might vary, it is favourable in most of the cases. CI seems a justified hearing rehabilitation option for children with ANSD and limited benefits from conventional hearing aids.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to evaluate the relationships between auditory processing, speech discrimination, and listening and communication abilities in children diagnosed with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD) compared to those with normal hearing.
Methods: This was a case-control study involving seventeen participants with a diagnosis of ANSD who used spoken language as their primary mode of communication and wore hearing aids or were unaided and 21 normally hearing controls. All underwent a battery of behavioural measures of hearing, speech perception and auditory processing skills.

Auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD) is often missed by standard hearing tests, accounting for up to 10% of hearing impairments (HI) and commonly linked to variants in 23 genes. We assessed 122 children with HI, including 102 with sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and 20 with ANSD. SNHL patients were genotyped for common variants using qPCR, while ANSD patients underwent whole exome sequencing, with variants analyzed across 249 genes.

Method: The Children's Auditory Perception Test (CAPT) assesses auditory perception skills, and the Children's Home Inventory of Listening Difficulties (CHILD) Scale evaluates daily listening difficulties. The study involved pediatric CI recipients ( = 40) aged between 5 and 7 years, with and without diagnosis of ANSD.

Objective: The acoustic change complex (ACC) is a cortical auditory evoked potential (CAEP) and can be elicited by a change in an otherwise continuous sound. The ACC has been highlighted as a promising tool in the assessment of sound and speech discrimination capacity, and particularly for difficult-to-test populations such as infants with hearing loss, due to the objective nature of ACC measurements. Indeed, there is a pressing need to develop further means to accurately and thoroughly establish the hearing status of children with hearing loss, to help guide hearing interventions in a timely manner.
