In this paper, we found that morphology controllable compound latex particles could be prepared by controlling the multistage emulsion polymerization. Influences of the content of methacrylic acid (MAA) on preparing the hydrophilic cores and the particles were investigated with the observation of dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) results. The acorn-like latex particles were synthesized by partially encapsulated with hydrophobic polystyrene (PSt)-layer. With adding moderate polarity polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) interlayer, the hydrophilic cores could be fully encapsulated by the hydrophobic PSt-layer, and the core-shell structure formed. After alkali treatment, the acorn-like and core-shell latex particles evolved into amphiphilic Janus and hollow latex particles, respectively. The morphology of latex particles was investigated by TEM, and the forming mechanism of amphiphilic Janus and hollow latex particles was proposed.

Inspired by the initial mineralization process with bone matrix vesicles (MVs), this study innovatively developed a delivery system to mediate mineralization during bone regeneration. The system comprises nanofibrous chitosan microspheres (NCM) and poly (allylamine hydrochloride)-stabilized amorphous calcium phosphate (PAH-ACP), which is thereafter referred to as NCMP. NCM is synthesized through the thermal induction of chitosan molecular chains, serving as the carrier, while PAH-ACP functions as the mineralization precursor.

This work explores the enhancement of EMI shielding efficiency of polyurethane (PU) foam by loading multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNTs)-decorated hollow glass microspheres (HGMs). MWCNT was coated onto the HGM surface by a simple solution casting technique. The coated HGM particles were loaded in PU foams, resulting in an even dispersion of MWCNT in the foam struts, thereby forming an interconnected conductive network in the polymer matrix.

A porous hedgehog-like CoO/NiO/graphene oxide (denoted as PHCNO/GO) microsphere was prepared by a facile solvothermal method, followed by an annealing treatment under argon atmosphere. Benefiting from the thin CoO/NiO nanosheets with a large specific surface area, abundant pores distributed between the CoO/NiO nanosheets, and GO firmly wrapped around the surface of PHCNO microspheres, the PHCNO/GO microspheres showed excellent lithium storage performance. The CoO/NiO nanosheets provided numerous active sites, achieving a high reversible specific capacity.

As one of the key diagnostic methods for detecting biomarkers and antigen-antibody interactions, the luminescent oxygen channel immunoassay (LOCI) has been widely applied in bioanalysis and other fields. In the context of LOCI, the performance of the prepared donor polystyrene (PS) microspheres significantly impacts the detection signal values. In this study, an attempt was made to synthesize PS microspheres via one-step polymerization of styrene with an amphiphilic monomer (PEOOH), followed by swelling the silicon phthalocyanine photosensitizer into the PS microspheres, resulting in the functionalization of the PS microspheres with polyethylene glycol segments.
