Unintentional intraarterial injections are rare but may have devastating consequences. No consensus on treatment has been established owing to the wide variety of possible injected substances, incomplete understanding of the underlying pathophysiology, and the absence of case-controlled, prospective human studies. The aim of the present study and literature review was to evaluate the benefit of intraarterial thrombolysis combined with systemic anticoagulation therapy when an artery of the upper extremity is accidentally punctured and ischemia of the hand ensues.

Background: Accidental intra-arterial administration of a medication can lead to serious iatrogenic harm. Most studies have discussed single cases of accidental intra-arterial administration of a medication, but only a few have described multiple cases occurring in a single, pediatric hospital setting.
Methods: The subjects were pediatric patients with an accidental intra-arterial administration of a medication.
Background: Inadvertent intra-arterial injection of sclerosants is an uncommon adverse event of both ultrasound-guided and direct vision sclerotherapy. This complication can result in significant tissue or limb loss and significant long-term morbidity.
Objectives: To provide recommendations for diagnosis and immediate management of an unintentional intra-arterial injection of sclerosing agents.

An artery may be entered on the dorsum of the hand with the mistaken belief that it is a vein. Intraarterial injection of drugs is one of the dreadful consequences of accidental intraarterial cannulation. In this case of a 3-month-old infant, we emphasize the fact that careful observation can prevent unintentional intraarterial drug injection via an 'assumed intravenous' cannula and prevent the associated morbidity.

During the second cycle, a diffuse uptake in his left forearm was observed on the 1-hour postinjection scintigraphy, typical for an accidental intra-arterial injection. Less than 24 hours postinjection, a full removal of the intra-arterial injection was observed in the man, without any pain or symptoms.
