Background: The purpose of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the accuracy of (18) fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)-CT for diagnosis of lung malignancies in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCCs).

Methods: A systematic review of relevant literature was performed in the MEDLINE and EMBASE databases. The Stata software was used to pool the sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic odds ratio, and likelihood ratios, and to construct summary receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves for (18) FDG PET-CT.

Results: Twelve articles (1431 patients) were included in this study. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic odds ratio, positive likelihood ratio, and negative likelihood ratio with 95% confidence interval (CI) for (18) FDG PET-CT were 0.85 (95% CI = 0.66-0.94), 0.98 (95% CI = 0.96-0.99), 335 (95% CI = 96.4-1166), 52.0 (95% CI = 23.3-115.9), and 0.16 (95% CI = 0.06-0.43), respectively. Area under the curve was 0.99 (95% CI = 0.97-0.99).

Conclusion: (18) FDG PET-CT is a valuable diagnostic tool for diagnosing lung malignancies in patients with HNSCC.

The cytotoxic mechanisms of thymidylate synthase inhibitors, such as the multitarget antifolate pemetrexed, are not yet fully understood. Emerging evidence indicates that combining pemetrexed with histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) may enhance therapeutic efficacy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). To explore this further, A549 NSCLC cells were treated with various combinations of pemetrexed and the HDACi MS275 (Entinostat), and subsequently assessed for cell viability, cell cycle changes, and genotoxic markers.

Objective: The PACIFIC trial established standard therapy for patients with unresectable stage III NSCLC who did not progress after platinum-based concurrent chemoradiation therapy. However, real-world data, particularly from Latin America, remain limited. The LACOG 0120 study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of consolidation therapy with durvalumab in a real-world setting in Brazil.

SMARCA4 regulates the NK-mediated killing of senescent cells.

MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS), Du Cane Road, London W12 0NN, UK.

Induction of senescence by chemotherapeutic agents arrests cancer cells and activates immune surveillance responses to contribute to therapy outcomes. In this investigation, we searched for ways to enhance the NK-mediated elimination of senescent cells. We used a staggered screen approach, first identifying siRNAs potentiating the secretion of immunomodulatory cytokines to later test for their ability to enhance NK-mediated killing of senescent cells.

Copper is an essential nutrient for sustaining vital cellular processes spanning respiration, metabolism, and proliferation. However, loss of copper homeostasis, particularly misregulation of loosely bound copper ions which are defined as the labile copper pool, occurs in major diseases such as cancer, where tumor growth and metastasis have a heightened requirement for this metal. To help decipher the role of copper in the etiology of cancer, we report a histochemical activity-based sensing approach that enables systematic, high-throughput profiling of labile copper status across many cell lines in parallel.

Introduction: Undiagnosed chronic disease has serious health consequences, and variation in rates of underdiagnosis between populations can contribute to health inequalities. We aimed to estimate the level of undiagnosed disease of 11 common conditions and its variation across sociodemographic characteristics and regions in England.

Methods: We used linked primary care, hospital and mortality data on approximately 1.
