Early postoperative bevacizumab for preventing neovascular glaucoma in phacovitrectomy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, Hanyang University Guri Hospital, Hanyang University College of Medicine, Gyongchun-ro 153, Guri, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.

To evaluate the effectiveness of postoperative intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) in preventing neovascular glaucoma (NVG) and identify associated risk factors in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) undergoing phacovitrectomy. Patients with PDR who underwent phacovitrectomy were enrolled and categorized into two subgroups based on their postoperative treatment regimen: one group received IVB within 2 months following phacovitrectomy (Group 1); the other did not receive IVB during this period (Group 2). A comparative analysis evaluated the distinguishing characteristics of the two groups after 1:1 propensity score matching.

Objective To investigate the correlations of the expression levels of microRNA (miR)-206 and miR-186 in the serum with the disease severity and prognosis of elderly patients with vascular dementia (VD). Methods A total of 104 elderly patients with VD treated in Dalian Municipal Central Hospital from October 2020 to May 2023 were selected into the VD group and 104 healthy volunteers who underwent physical examinations were enrolled in the control group.Baseline data of both groups were collected, and fluorescence quantitative PCR was used to measure the expression levels of miR-206 and miR-186 in the serum.

Heavy metal contamination in agricultural soils has garnered increasing attention, yet research on the spatiotemporal trends of heavy metal pollution in tropical regions with multiple annual crop harvests remains limited. This study examines data from 41 studies published between 2000 and 2024, including 206 records from 4122 sampling points on Hainan Island in China, to investigate the spatial distribution and temporal trends of heavy metal pollution. The results reveal that the average concentrations of Cd, Pb, As, Cr, and Hg in surface soil samples from agricultural lands on Hainan Island are 0.

There is evidence of perturbed microbial and host processes in the gastrointestinal tract of individuals with functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID) compared to healthy controls. The faecal metabolome provides insight into the metabolic processes localised to the intestinal tract, while the plasma metabolome highlights the overall perturbances of host and/or microbial responses. This study profiled the faecal ( = 221) and plasma ( = 206) metabolomes of individuals with functional constipation (FC), constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-C), functional diarrhoea (FD), diarrhoea-predominant IBS (IBS-D) and healthy controls (identified using the Rome Criteria IV) using multimodal LC-MS technologies.

Sepsis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Among the various types of end-organ damage associated with sepsis, hepatic injury is linked to significantly higher mortality rates compared to dysfunction in other organ systems. This study aimed to investigate potential biomarkers of hepatic injury in sepsis patients through a multi-center, case-control approach.
