Fetal surveillance in late pregnancy and during labor.

During early gestation, drugs have teratogenic effects and can be associated with structural anomalies in the fetus. Substance abuse can also have physiologic effects on the mother and fetus, including decreased uterine blood flow, increased vascular resistance, and an increase in fetal blood pressure. Women at increased risk for stillbirth should undergo antepartum fetal surveillance initiated at 32 weeks of gestation. Because of the high incidence of low birth weight, fetal anomalies, preterm delivery, and growth restriction in these patients, ultrasonography for appropriate pregnancy dating, a detailed anatomic survey, and cervical length should be performed at 20 weeks' gestation.

Aims: This study investigated the association between maternal age and early and late gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Methods: In total, 72,270 pregnant women were included in this prospective birth cohort study. Associations between maternal age and early GDM (diagnosed at <24 gestational weeks) and late GDM (diagnosed at ≥24 gestational weeks) were evaluated using a multinomial logistic regression model with possible confounding factors.

Introduction: The relationship between diet of mothers, including supplementation of vitamin D and Long Chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (LC-PUFA), and the prevalence of congenital heart defects (CHD) in the fetus has not been sufficiently studied. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between the intake of vitamin D and LC-PUFA by mother (from diet and with supplementation, including its time of implementation and applied dose), and the risk of CHD in the fetus.

Methods: This was a case-control study with the participation of a total of 79 women with prenatally diagnosed CHD in the fetus and 121 women without CHD in the fetus.

CD8+ and CD8- NK Cells and Immune Checkpoint Networks in Peripheral Blood During Healthy Pregnancy.

Int J Mol Sci

Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, Medical School, University of Pecs, 12 Szigeti Street, 7624 Pecs, Hungary.

Pregnancy involves significant immunological changes to support fetal development while protecting the mother from infections. A growing body of evidence supports the importance of immune checkpoint pathways, especially at the maternal-fetal interface, although limited information is available about the peripheral expression of these molecules by CD8+ and CD8- NK cell subsets during the trimesters of pregnancy. Understanding the dynamics of these immune cells and their checkpoint pathways is crucial for elucidating their roles in pregnancy maintenance and potential complications.

The majority of infections caused by ZIKV exhibit mild symptoms.
