Unlabelled: Aims/Introduction: Gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) are major incretins that potentiate insulin secretion from pancreatic β-cells. The factors responsible for incretin secretion have been reported in Caucasian subjects, but have not been thoroughly evaluated in Japanese subjects. We evaluated the factors associated with incretin secretion during oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in Japanese subjects with normal glucose tolerance (NGT).
Materials And Methods: We measured plasma GIP and GLP-1 levels during OGTT in 17 Japanese NGT subjects and evaluated the factors associated with GIP and GLP-1 secretion using simple and multiple regression analyses.
Results: GIP secretion (AUC-GIP) was positively associated with body mass index (P < 0.05), and area under the curve (AUC) of C-peptide (P < 0.05) and glucagon (P < 0.01), whereas GLP-1 secretion (AUC-GLP-1) was negatively associated with AUC of plasma glucose (P < 0.05). The insulinogenic index was most strongly associated with GIP secretion (P < 0.05); homeostasis model assessment β-cell was the most the strongly associated factor in GLP-1 secretion (P < 0.05) among the four indices of insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity.
Conclusions: Several distinct factors might be associated with GIP and GLP-1 secretion during OGTT in Japanese subjects. (J Diabetes Invest, doi: 10.1111/j.2040-1124.2010.00078.x, 2011).

The influence of long-term climatic changes such as glacial cycles on the history of living organisms has been a subject of research for decades, but the detailed population dynamics during the environmental fluctuations and their effects on genetic diversity and genetic load are not well understood on a genome-wide scale. The Japanese macaque (Macaca fuscata) is a unique primate adapted to the cold environments of the Japanese archipelago. Despite of the past intensive research for the Japanese macaque population genetics, the genetic background of Japanese macaques at the whole-genome level has been limited to a few individuals, and the comprehensive demographic history and genetic differentiation of Japanese macaques have been underexplored.

Background: The present study aimed to explore the threshold-effect association of serum ferritin levels with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and prediabetes mellitus in Chinese adults.
Methods: A total of 8365 people from CHNS a cross-sectional survey in 2009 were finally included. The biomarker data, including major cardiovascular biomarkers and important nutrition biomarkers were collected.

Previous studies reported that depressive symptoms were associated with a high risk of all-cause mortality. However, the effect of different long-term depressive symptom trajectory patterns on the risk of all-cause mortality has not been evaluated. Our research aimed to explore the association between different depressive symptom trajectories and the risk of all-cause mortality in Chinese adults.

Recent data on methods used by adults to stop smoking can inform tobacco control policies. Nationally representative Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey data from the 2022 National Health Interview Survey (N = 27,651) were used to analyze populations of US adults who self-reported having stopped smoking cigarettes for 6 months or longer in the last year and the methods they used, or who did not stop smoking but tried in the last year (N = 1735). In 2022, an estimated 2.

Persistent hiccups are rare but can serve as an early symptom of underlying conditions, including pulmonary infections and cerebrovascular disorders. This case highlights hiccups as a presenting symptom of bronchopneumonia in a hemodialysis patient and explores the effective use of chlorpromazine and Hange-koboku-to (HKT) as symptomatic therapies. Given the potential association of hiccups with neurological conditions, this case underscores the need for comprehensive diagnostic evaluation.
