In the field of organ transplantation medical ethics is confronted with a number of problems where the particular difficulty lies in the fact that ethical and anthropological questions interpenetrate. This article discusses two of these problems in this interface both of which are highly controversial: the real or apparent contradiction between the dead-donor rule and the traditional definition of death and the real or apparent contradiction between the ethical desirability of harvesting organs from non-heart beating donors and the irreversibility of brain death.

The real rotational capacity of the human joints - the muscular and gravitational torques and the foot as a platform.

Acta Bioeng Biomech

September 2024

Jagiellonian University Medical College, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Bioinformatics and Telemedicine, Kraków, Poland.

The purpose was to answer what is the relationship between torques acting on the human body, how does the triceps calf muscle balance the weight of a tilted body and what is the foot's role in the titling body? Two research models were developed. Model 1 - the one-sided lever system consists of a flat bar with, an axis of rotation, used to determine the weight and torque at a given point on it. Model 2 - the two-sided lever system consists of a flat bar imitating a tilted body counteracted by the Achilles tendon, and a platform imitating a foot.

Using a large health insurance database in Japan, we examined the real-world usage of budesonide enteric-coated capsules (BUD) in treating Crohn's disease. We analyzed data from the Japan Medical Data Center claims database for Crohn's disease patients prescribed BUD from April 2016 to March 2021, focusing on prescription status, adverse events (AEs), monitoring tests, and concomitant medications over 2 years following BUD initiation. Patients were categorized into two groups based on BUD usage duration: ≤1 year and >1 year.

To investigate the effects of artificial light at night on the growth of mandibles in mice and its regulatory mechanisms. A mouse model of artificial light at night (night light pollution group) and normal lighting (normal light group) was established by controlling light exposure time, with 4 mice in each group. Micro-CT was employed to analyze the differences in bone quantities of the mandibles between the two groups.
