Introduction. Observation of open-ring enhancement in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is considered a specificity marker for diagnosing pseudotumoral multiple sclerosis (MS). This finding is of great value in the differential diagnosis of tumefactive lesions. Case Report. We describe a 55-year-old white woman, with previous history of ovarian cancer and recent history of fatigue and bilateral retroorbital pain. Important bilateral visual impairment evolved over one month. Physical examination detected the presence of right homonymous hemianopia. Cranial MRI showed an expanding lesion with open-ring enhancement. Given the range of diagnostic possibilities, a stereotactic biopsy was performed, and histopathological examination was consistent with an active demyelinating disease. The patient was treated with 1 g of methylprednisolone and symptoms improved following a significant reduction in the lesion. Conclusions. We highlight the MRI results suggestive of pseudotumoral MS, especially open-ring enhancement, which is an important radiologic aspect to diagnosis and can assist in avoiding unnecessary biopsies.

As an essential material for manufacturing lithium batteries, the demand of lithium is increasing, which means novel extracting method from various lithium-containing solutions is necessary. Spiropyran molecules undergo a photoisomerization reaction under light, transitioning from a closed-ring form (colorless) to an open-ring form (colored), generating multiple coordination sites to form coordination bonds with metal ions. In this paper, a polyacrylamide/carboxymethyl chitosan composite aerogel grafted with photoresponsive spiropyragroups (FeO/CNTs@PAM/CS-SP), used for extracting lithium from solutions, was prepared by dual cross-linking and vacuum freeze-drying.

Xeno nucleic acids (XNAs) are unnatural analogues of the natural nucleic acids in which the canonical ribose or deoxyribose rings are replaced with alternative sugars, congener structures or even open-ring configurations. The expanding repertoire of XNAs holds significant promise for diverse applications in molecular biology as well as diagnostics and therapeutics. Key advantages of XNAs over natural nucleic acids include their enhanced biostability, superior target affinity and (in some cases) catalytic activity.

Advanced sensing devices based on metasurfaces have emerged as a revolutionary platform for innovative label-free biosensors, holding promise for early diagnostics and the detection of low-concentration analytes. Here, we developed a chip-based ultrasensitive terahertz (THz) metasensor, leveraging a quasi-bound state in the continuum (BIC) to address the challenges associated with intricate operations in trace biochemical detection. The metasensor design features an open-ring resonator metasurface, which supports magnetic dipole -BIC combining functionalized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) bound with a specific antibody.

The present study aimed to determine whether combining diffusion-weighted (DWI) and dynamic susceptibility contrast-enhanced perfusion-weighted (DSC-PWI) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) could differentiate between primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) and glioblastoma (GBM). The present retrospective study evaluated 45 patients with histologically confirmed brain tumors, of which 18 had PCNSLs and 27 had GBMs. All patients underwent conventional, DWI, and DSC-PWI MRIs before the surgical removal of the lesion or stereotactic biopsy.
