Some cancer cell lines release soluble factors that activate the endothelial cells in vitro; also endothelial activation in vivo includes an increased expression of adhesion molecules on the apical membrane, and an increased permeability, which may contribute to the extravasation process of circulating cells. We have adapted the Miles assay into a protocol that uses IgE/antigen complex and VEGF-1 as controls. The Miles assay comprises the intradermic injection of a pro-inflammatory agent into the skin and the intravenous introduction of a dye; the increase in vascular permeability will allow for the extravasation of the dye and thus the skin will be stained. The dye is then extracted from the dissected skin and quantified by spectrophotometry. The use of localized treatments will allow for testing a larger number of experimental samples in the same animal. With this model, the effects of tumoral soluble factors (TSFs) on endothelial permeability can be studied, as well as the signaling pathways involved. It can also serve to study the interactions between endothelial, immune, and cancer cells during the extravasation process.

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is an etiologically diverse metabolic dysfunction that, if untreated, leads to chronic hyperglycemia. Understanding the etiology of T2DM is critical, as it represents one of the most formidable medical challenges of the twenty-first century. Traditionally, insulin resistance has been recognized as the primary risk factor and a well-known consequence of type 2 diabetes.

Periodontitis, a widespread inflammatory disease, is the major cause of tooth loss in adults. While mechanical periodontal therapy benefits the periodontal disease treatment, adjunctive periodontal therapy is also necessary. Topically applied anti-inflammatory agents have gained considerable attention in periodontitis therapy.

Tree bark is an important natural polymer for sound absorption. The main components in the bark of different tree species are polymers with high molecular weight such as cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. The aim of this study is to determine the noise reduction coefficient (NRC), lignin, alcohol-benzene solubility (ABS), carbon (C), and nitrogen (N) contents in samples taken from the bark of different tree species-black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia), narrow-leaved ash (Fraxinus angustifolia), stone pine (Pinus pinea), silver lime (Tilia tomentosa), sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa), sessile oak (Quercus petraea), and maritime pine (Pinus pinaster) and to investigate the relationship between these chemical properties and sound absorption measurements.

Psilocybin represents a novel therapeutic approach for individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD) who do not respond to conventional antidepressant treatment. Investigating the influence of psilocybin on the pathophysiological processes involved in MDD could enhance our neurobiological understanding of the presumed antidepressant action mechanism. This systematic review aims to summarize the results of human studies investigating changes in blood-based biomarkers of MDD to guide future research on potentially relevant analytes that could be monitored in clinical trials.
