In response to national and state mandates to increase diversity in the nursing workforce, a small, liberal arts college in Oregon implemented a comprehensive program to recruit and retain students underrepresented in nursing, especially Hispanics. The goals of Ayudando Podemos were to increase enrollment of underrepresented and disadvantaged students, improve student retention and graduation rates, increase student participation in a mentorship program, improve cultural competence in the campus community, and increase the number of graduates working in medically underserved or health professional shortage areas (HPSAs). The program had four parts: institutional catalysts and commitment, relationship building and student connection, individualized academic coaching, and financial aid and scholarship coaching. Sixty-nine prenursing and nursing students participated over 6 years. The retention rate was 96.2%.

Background: There is an under-reporting of anaesthesia-related safety events. Incident-capturing systems (ICSs) are essential for patient safety monitoring, identifying risks and ongoing opportunities for improvement. After a literature review and assessment of our current ICSs, we concluded that our institution lacked a reliable anaesthesia-specific ICS system, leading to under-reporting of anaesthesia-related safety events.

At-risk conifer stands growing in hot, arid conditions at low elevations may contain the most climate change-adapted seeds needed for sustainable forestry. This study used a triage framework to identify high-priority survey areas for Pinus ponderosa (Pipo) within a large region, by intersecting an updated range map with a map of seed zones and elevation bands (SZEBs). The framework assesses place-based climate change and potential wildfire risks by rank-order across 740 potential collection units.

The aim of this research is to create an automated system for identifying soil microorganisms at the genera level based on raw microscopic images of monocultural colonies grown in laboratory environment. The examined genera are: Fusarium, Trichoderma, Verticillium, Purpureolicillium and Phytophthora. The proposed pipeline deals with unprocessed microscopic images, avoiding additional sample marking or coloration.
